Dunno - is Steam known for sometimes hogging the processor even after it's finished ? I don't know 'cos I haevn't installed it yet.
EDIT: Heres a good explination...

It basically gives the CPU something to do when it does not have any other processes scheduled (this allows nicer code in the scheduler, since it does not have to have special cases when there are no runable/ready processes). Also, this process can be useful from an OS cleanup point of view (looks for deadlocks, etc.)
It runs at the lowest priority, and so will get cycles when nothing else is requesting CPU attention. So if you are not doing anything, then it is perfectly normal for it to have high CPU usage.

Is your system very laggy or is that what you were seeing in task manager?
You could have a virus....I've had a virus that made my cpu % go to 100% the whole time...
turn off the comp leave it off for a few hours then see about it again, put a fan blowing on the back of oyur comp too, may be a heat issue, ya never know.
Norton Virusscan caused it, and then AOLIM caused it, and now after a reformat, i'm at a STEADY 15% usage....
either re-format, or get a new system, those are the two programs that would screw me up, and reformat/close are the two things that helped me.
