Halo
<div class="IPBDescription">questin about the Flood</div> So as im playing HALO on my PC (I played it on x box but really only mp and co op with later missions
i have a question about the flood.
Are those large zombie type things simply those little bouncy headcrab like things grown up or did they used to be marines and other aliens mutated.
Kinda like zombies in HL after one of those little things got to you?
My friend who owns the game says no but I dont know b/c
A. They are the only non human creatures to use human weapons
B. Early on right before you get Jenkins' video chip a you run into a scared crapless lone marine survivor who shouts
"No get away from me you wont turn me into one of them!" And he proceeds to shoot at you with his pistol.
So just wondering thanks. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

<b>edit:</b> How in the name of heck does your friend explain the giant bag of puss you have to wrench the implants out of? o.O
I left that vague as to not spoil it more than it has already for anyone not that far yet ^~
Plus theres the Quote "Oh god I recognise that one, that was Bob!"
When I play Halo, we call them 'heads' (the big explodey ones are 'poppers'). They're a lot like headcrabs, except they're easier for you to kill, and you don't have to fear them much since the master chief has full body armor on. If they attack you when you have no health they'll just chew on you for awhile before popping (think of it as the master chief beating them off or something).
So, the zombie-like flood are marines that got attacked by headcrabs....or elites that got attacked by headcrabs in some cases. It might make a little more sense once you beat the game, because I don't want to give any spoilers here <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.
Good thing is they drop stupid amounts of ammo <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
the feeling of being overwhelmed, of not being able to just KILL EVERYTHING like usual. even if you're a strategy master like i now am (i'm gonna just brag freely 'cause i've been playing for years...), you don't HAVE the TIME to put the monster down, and THEN shoot its head off. so you gotta lay em low.. and then just RUN for it.
that was great.
esPECially in the two betrayals. when you have to bypass (or plow through) the two flood-covenant battles? complete with tanks and rocket flood? gawd that was great.
and.. while you're outdoors, there aren't any of what my friend and i called "lil' sh*ts". those are annoying.
Best anti-Flood weapon is the Shotgun. Twelve Gauges of Flood/Sentry killing goodness.
1) Shotguns are about as cheap as they are in NS: One shot kills vs. flood. Sometimes you can catch two in the shot and take them both down. If you're not sure if your hit was 'clean', go whack the body with your gun so he doesn't get up again.
2) Floodlings hurt even when you shoot them. They also have only 1 hp. So if there's a lot of floodlings together, just club one of them and watch them pop! (NOTE: Most times I never even bothered with the floodlings. Your shield can take about 30 of them. I just sat and let them pop me, and when my sheild got low, 'It's clobberin' time!' and I played baseball with my rifle)
3) Poppers cause a HUGE amount of damage when the explode. Never be near one when it does. They also do friendly fire damage from explosions, but friendly fire seems to be less then normal. Either way, always try to shoot them when they're around other friendlies.
4) If you're having a standoff with the flood (Easy to do with the shotgun), as in: You just mow them down as they round a corner... if the bodies start to pile up, MOVE AWAY. Chances are there's a lot of 'nades sitting around, and if you shoot a popper, all those nades explode, and most likely, so will you.
5) Plasma Pistols are great against the laser drones. Just charge it up and fire and it'll go down.
*8* gauge. Read the ammo boxes for it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

lol @ nub.
there are only two kinds of middle-stage flood ^_^
elites and marines.
edit: final stage, of course, are the larva-bearing ones. notice they're bipedal.

wrong, silly boy.
typically they need one killing to hit the ground, and another killing before or after they get up.
you gotta kill em twice. always twice.
That feeling of going through overwhelming odds, that I like.
I said it's a possibility. I mean, Elites only come around every once in while, so how come they have so many Elite Flood? Couldn't they just stack a couple of Infected Jackals?

aye.

i'm sorry... even if you've done all that shiat, your theory is PURELY conjecture.
even though there is a story base around the game, it's still just that: a game, with specific limits.. like the kinds of enemies.
yoo looz! 2 types of fluds.
floodlings- the little annoying ones that pop
elite flood - flood that have the elite form, the tall ones, if you look at there heads (I reccomend when they are dead) you can see the resemblence to the covenent elite (the four pointed mouth thingy)
Human flood - the small ones that have human heads (same purpose as the elite ones though, just look different)
exploding flood - the ones that cause massive amounts of destruction and release more floodlings
now that I think about it, I am almost covinvinced that there may be another type, alone the lines of the human/elite fighter model, but Im not sure, will have to play it again I guess
/my two cents
also, halo 2 is supposed to have enemies "even more surprising than the flood"
I don't understand why halo gets bad mouthed so much, I love the story, and my explanation for the levels always looking the same is this:
wouldn't you think that an advanced alien race capable of warp travel and other things, would find the most efficient way to create a room, and then copy it for maximum efficiency?
Elite Flood.
Marine Flood.
Sac Flood (the big guys that go POP! when you shoot them)
The 4 types are pure flood (lil guys), Elite Flood, Human Flood and Burstbags (or whatever you want to call them =P) The exploding ones could be just about anything because the only thing they have left resembling their previous form is their legs, so they could be jackals or humans or anything with 2 legs really =/
The good thing about the flood is they really justify the short-fused human grenades over the usually superior covenent sticky ones. The last thing you want is one of them running full pelt at you with the grenade you just threw still stuck to it's chest ^^;
<b>edit:</b> okies you guys beat me to it =P
Elite Flood.

those are race-blind.
edit: (they're not covenant or marine. they don't differ at the final life cycle stage.)
yes, there are FOUR FLOOD ENEMIES
but there are only TWO infected flood enemies.
TWO.
- = irrelevant
*= infected
-larva
*human infected
*elite infected
-final life cycle stage
I wanted to see the infected hunter too!!
*waits patiently for halo 2*

lol, there are three life cycle stages ~,~
are you *waiting patiently for halo 2*, in the hopes there'll be some infected hunters? 0_o?
i think the flood are over...
but brutes'll be fun X3
God that annoyed me.
"Hey look eat sticky grenade! Oh Cr*p"
BOOM

Not always. If you shoot their head or chestish area they'll hit the ground and STAY down. And I've never had one get up that I've hit while he's down.
