2. Questions
1. Why is the TSA too stupid to remember how they upgraded stuff and have to reupgrade stuff every mission and
2. Why doesn't the TSA send a squad of 20 heavy marines in to everyship and instantly wipe out the aliens. Hey its a tiny investment the TSA need simple make and it'll save them tons or res every mission and not mention tons of lives every mission.

Long answer: The TSA are on a tight budget. Very few corporations or governments even *like* them, though the people love 'em to pieces. They can afford to send copies of software detailing the construction of given structures, but cannot justify sending along expensive equipment. In short, the structures and equipment they make are the 'fee' they charge a ship for clearing it of Kharaa, as they use ship resources to make them. They slot their equipment specs into the Comm Chair, and work from there with what they can lay their hands on.
2. Tight budget. The TSA simply cant afford to have every ship fully equipped. It would weigh too much, cost too much to create, and would require far more res than they have access to. Therefore, they have to draw up on the stations nano-sludge to 'finance' their gear.
Think about that from a logical standpoint.
A> Where does the MASS come from, to make more nano-sludge? It doesn't appear out of thin air.
B> Originally, res nodes had a limited amount of sludge, and each gave at their own rate. This was taken out as it led to a late-game resource choke, most of the time.
C> If nano-sludge were unlimited/free, then the frontiersmen WOULD pretty easily just make all their gear and take it with them. As it stands, a deep-space ship just has such a large store of it, it's *effectively* unlimited.
In theroy it should. Nanobots should be able to make the atoms in the air into anything they were programed to by addin or removing electrons and/or protons/neutrons.

Agreed. (You might consider pwned however...)

nah it could only be pwned if he said:
"but what about thick air?"
The TSA can't be that intelligent though; most of their recruits training seems to revolve around wedging their member in the armoury and fufilling their empty chamber needs

Ahh, now that would indeed by pwned.
And Big Chief, is there really any need to insult him, he asked a serious question, he just did not consider the consequences of the question if things were truly logical.
Its simple energy conservation. Why create large free roaming animals when all threats are gone?
Why spawn onos when perhaps a skulk will do?
Follow the logic from there.
They're not that small. They're nanobots, meaning their size is on the order of 10^-9 meters. The size of a subatomic particle, on the other hand, is on the order of 10^-15 meters. That's a million times smaller.
[edit]
However, the nanobots wouldn't have to directly manipulate the particles in order to convert one substance to another, so it would be possible for them to convert air into nanosludge.
Anyway, that's not creating mass out of thin air, because the mass already exists (in the form of thin air). The mass is merely being rearranged.
[/edit]
Why must you flame? It was a serious question, and it was a perfectly normal one.
Whoa, civilian, where did that come from?

The aliens in there "true" form are just a buch of cells foating around, but when they sence the marines they start to "mass" and from larger live forms (hives, skulks ect ect).

Ok lets look at it this way, the marines tech up all the way, pwn the aliens with there HA/HMG. So when they pack up to go home they toss all there gear out the air lock? Why not take it to the next mission. What i want to know is how the IP works. The back story says when a marine dies the IP takes a new marine from the ship and sends him there. But lets say a marine dies 10 times, that means there are 10 marines sitting on that ship, why not all come down at once instead of waiting for one to die?
Yes, they could initiate a fission reaction. [edit]They could also initiate a fusion reaction by using the energy released by a fission reaction.[/edit]

haha, funny, but i think your assuming that a "bot" is a about a meter is size, so if they have the prefix nano-, they must be 10^-9 meters

The new Bond movie "Ice-fire"(or something like that)comes out.
Audiences flock to see it. Half way through the movie Dr Evil Mc'Nevil,(hehehe) has Bond surrounded by his evil henchmen.
Bond:"It looks like you've caught me"
Dr Evil Mc'Nevil:"Indeed it has"
Bond:"but tell me why do yo.." *BLAM*
Bond falls dead as Dr Evil Mc'Nevil puts a bullet in Bond's brain.
The movie ends with Dr Evil Mc'Nevil becoming ruler of the world.
The ensuring riot destroyes the movie complex and chaos takes to the street.
My point?.Dr Evil Mc'Nevil is a funny name..I mean the game wouldn't be fun if you could join and simply wipe out the Kharra in a few seconds or join the Kharra and swamp the marines with fully upgraded Onos.

I'm not so sure... But isn't that exactly what he just said?
Also, most of this has already been answered, not only by the man. but also all the kind, kind people who have posted before me. Of course there's gonna be holes in the game and storyline, but its not totally about the storyline, that's just there to give the game a reason to be, the game itself is for fun and playing, no need to dig so deep into it
I mean, look at quake and its storyline (found in the readme)... Just stuff show'd up so we're killing it. 'Course, atleast it has a storyline... *cough* q3a */cough*
