Textures needed!

    Yeah, but the NS.wad isn't all purpose. For instance, I've had to go looking around for some good hi-tech laboratory style textures for my map, since the NS wad is mostly grunge and dirty sci-fi stuff...

    With my large infested areas I found their was a lack of infested textures.  So I ended up making my own.  Before you ask, they look like sh1t.

    can anyone make a tutorial about this... not about how to create it with wally, but how to get the bmp. Say, i wanted to have a new door texture... how should i do this? please... if anyone would make a tutor about this it would really help me.

    Well the thing is,  when you make all maps with the same texture they tend to look the same... when all the maps for NS are build with the same wad file, the game woun't be too much fun to play!!!  AND FOR A GAME LIKE THIS MAPS ARE PREATY IMPORTANT!!

    Yes but i belive that the ns team aint to happy if there is alot of the ordinary free textures in there maps for there mod so i think that mappers should be carefull when using textures that aint in the ns wad as i read somewhere that there goal is that there is going to be the same style in all maps that dosent differ to much betwen each other.
    as all the textures i do for badmofos map do i trye to do with the same flavour as corys but with my own style.
    And from time to time do i hear with cory wath he think as i belive he is the head boss in the mods graphical department in how the mod is going to look graphically.
    And the textures i do for badmofos map will only be used for this ns modification and no one else.
    As i belive that such an original mod like this should not look the same as no other mod out there as it easially will if freeware textures are used.
    As the textures i made for uncrossable parallel is going to only be used for that modification.

    I'm assuming you mean texture wad here. You can create a huge variety of different and unique looking maps out of one high quality wad like NS's. All it takes is a bit of creativity.

    but...  to tell you the truth, i didn't even know about the NS.wad  heh, stupid me!

    I'll tell you this though!!

    if you made all the CS maps with the same texture, the game just wouldn't be the same..  but that's just me!!

    Yes you are right with cs but this aint cs.
    As this was planned to be an modification that haved the same design thru it all both in quality and style with its textures.
    as you probably have noticed so is there alot of cs maps out there but there is also an huge difference in quality in textures and maps for it.
    I belive that the ns team wants there modification to have the same quality in textures thru all there maps.
    And thats easiest obtained if all the mappers use the official aproved wad with textures that they belive have the right quality.

    AM, you are right, but as Cliff mentioned - the developers of ns are aiming for a similar look throughout (from what I understand) There is nothing wrong with using custom textures in your map - as long as they're somewhat similar in theme. I just didn't like your statement about NS not being much fun if everyone used the same wad.     I know I'm not the voice of authority here, but I think that custom textures will not be "shunned."  If you can find a good, futuristic sci-fi wad, and you can make something of it that'll match the general style of NS, you should be fine.  And Cliff, I highly doubt that the NS team would ever reject your textures.  They're just so amazing.

    Just don't go using the de_dust.wad

    Well, looks like everybody's pretty much said it all here for me.  

    As I've said before, there is no problem with using your own custom textures on your maps.  I never expected the NS wad to cover every situation and every map.  It's main role, in addition to fleshing out a lot of early maps for NS and getting them to look fairly cohesive, is to be used as a visual guide for the look and feel we are trying to achieve with the environments created for NS.  

    All we ask is that the quality is up to par with (or better then) what is in the official NS wad.  And, as Cliff stated, we would prefer them to be textures which haven't already been used in a lot of mods to help the visual look of NS stay unique.  And try to avoid the majority of halflife textures if possible.  

    Man, this should be stated in the mapping guidelines somewhere, if it's not already, so I don't have to keep saying it over and over again.

    And, Cliff, from what I've seen so far by you, I don't think you have anything to worry about.   <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    thank you animalmother. This is a little bit of help to me, but i still don't have a clue on how to create a door for NS. I don't think i'll be using sand in my ns map. Maybe the pipes though...
    anyone there who can show me how to create a spaceship door? or a spaceship wall?
