People Mass Joining Aliens.

<div class="IPBDescription">Because they are overpowered?</div> Now i originally had a nice post typed up,ready to be posted,but i clicked a link and instead of opening a new window it opened in this one and my post got ****.
Basically i see people mass joining aliens.Since aliens are overpowered,by the rules of logic,skilled players should be mostly in marines and newbies mostly in aliens to balance it out.Not happening.Skilled players are rushing to alien entry point map after map after map.Honestly,i cant remember when i last saw...erm....at least....hmm....10 clanners/vets play marines in 2.0.
Marine stacking in 1.04 was NOWHERE near as bad as alien stacking in 2.0.
Im not sure how people can think playing HOURS(yes hours) of aliens sitting outside marine base pwning a team that isnt skilled enough to exit the marine start,till they decide that everyone has res to go fade/onos/lerk and decide to come in en-mass and pwn the team that has been THROUGHLY bored for the last 15 mins or so.Ive done it before for 2 mins or so as a onos.I found it EXTREMELY boring wiping out la/lmg marines who's damge i healed in seconds thanks to the DCs outside the marine start and level 3 regen.It got me so bored that i just went ahead and wiped out the entire base while the majority of the aliens were begging me not to,so they could get more res/kills.
A few-die hard marines would go,the rest wold into aliens,it would end up with at least 4 people sitting in the alien entry point trying to join,then some would give up and spec the entire game(which usually doesnt last very long).
A new breed of NSPlayer has arisen.The ones that join the team with the most vets on it and the winning team if possible.If not,sit in spec for entire round.I had the privelege of playing with one today.In 2 hours,he could always be found on the alien team(where usually the skill levels were FAR superior to that of marines,and we arent factoring in them being overpowered),except for one RARE,isolated incident where skilled players joined marines and we WON(of course there were 3 people trying to join marines for the entire round......),and this guy,predictably joined marines.In fact....ive never seen him play on the losing team and STAY there before....he would always go spec or try and join the winning team.....
You might consider this a rant.Perhaps it is.But mostly i wanted to describe what ive seen and ask you the question : Have you seen this on your servers,or is it jsut that my country's community is pure ****?

4 maps of mass joining aliens is variety?
hunty is right.
in most pubs people stack aliens, and people stack the team with the most clanned players on.
although, i think things are starting to change. i hope.
People stack marines to farm....:\ hey it happens on the locals I play
Also, i think why a lot of people don't like playing marines is that its frustrating as **** due to the alien abilities. Stomp and devour, for instance, from the onos perspective its "AHAHAHA EASY MEAT NOOB HAAHAHAS", while from the marine perspective its "Ok, so, the onos stomped his foot, there was a loud bang and a little wavy thing, and for some reason i've lost all ability to fire my weapon... thats great. Oh, look, and here he comes, *Gobble* oh great, now i get to look at this **** innards for 30 seconds while im utterly helpless."
Whereas, marines have no weapons that are half as frustrating. They are mostly shooting things, the alien has a fair chance on the whole, to run away or fight back. So playing marines at the moment is generally frustrating, boring and depressing, and playing aliens isn't.
I dont really understand why so many people go alien, I appreciate that its different etc.. but surly these people MUST get bored of winning all the time?
and what about when the aliens out number marines?.. do they really get a sense of winning?.. It would surly be like playing any kind of team sports game were the opponents were out numberd to start with, and out of their league anyway!
cowards I say!
and just because we lose all the time, doesnt mean to say we havnt had a BRILLIANT game.. despite being out number, over powerd.. we have managed to hold out for so long.
When Marines DO win, wow.. what a sense of acheivment! everyone is cheering.. congratulating each other, thanking the commander, apolagising for messing up on something..but what a great game! (does that happen when aliens win?..think not)
But what happens when when marines do start to win.. strangly, the alien members start to quit.. excuses like.. "oh, i've got to go now, bye!".. "must go get something to eat".. I wouldnt want to accuse people of lying, but you get the sense that people are actually thinking..
"oh **** ! Aliens always win, how embarasing would it be if we lost.. must..go...eat something, or do something else.."
Also, I think it must be pointed out that when teams are balanced, the rines are still one fighting man down, being the commander.. you may say that is the case with gorge, but a gorge can fight, bile bomb, or evolve into something else.. commander can do no damage what so ever, unless he leaves the chair, in which case a game with no commander is no game at all.
I just enjoy both Marine and Alien sides <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
IMO, it may depends on lot of (individual) factors in wich team you'll see a player ends up.
Looking for variety in the game, trying to release the pressure from a hard day at work, enjoying playing aliens the most etc.
These are some random good reasons for joining aliens.
In my case, I kept on joining marines at my very beginings till I got "confirmed" with the game mechanisms.
Once done with that, I started to join aliens in order to:
-1. see how you see things from the perspective of the Dark Side <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
-2. get some variety, since alien and marine sides were said to be played very differently (wich was right, to a certain point)
-3. gather intelligence about the enemy's strenghts and weaknesses (to pownz your enemy, know him well); because before playing, I had read the manuals and the stories about NS, but only from the Frontiersmen point of view. I left intentionaly the alien side shrouded in darkness and mistery because I wanted to... (back to point 2.) and get surprised at what the aliens were able to do (the first time I saw a blinking Fade or a redeeming Onos, I can tell that I was really surprised.. and clueless of course <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)
Now I became a confirmed (not yet a good, mind you) player on both sides.
And I find both enjoyable, so as I said, I just usually choose random team in the RR.
Now, depending on the day, the mood of the moment, I may chose to join one side over the other.
I usually choose to stick to my team til we win once or a couple of times, then join the opposing force <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

The games where it's fairly skilled vs fairly skilled, usually tend to be really long, so people really do have to go after a while. Those who are winning don't want to waste their 100 res onos or 45 HAGLWelder, and have a(huge) reason to stay. That is not true for 0 res marines/aliens that are losing, so they'll gladly leave(or less reluctantly).
Although I'm kinda worried what those I play with will think of me when I quit when we are losing, so sometimes I end up not quitting even then.
1. By joining the marines i lost the game.
2. I have to fight invisible skulks. No matter how god you play an invisible skulk will close the distance and kill your entire squad.(+comms never scan, too complicated)
3. I spend the entire time as a la/lmg marine. In 10 hours of marine play i maybe have 20 mins where i have some weapons/equippment
4. When im not getting killed im a greasemonkey for the comm that spends 10 mins to build an outpost only to see it trampled by an onos in 30 secs.
5. If i dont get killed and don´t build stuff i get devoured. Over and over and over and over and over and over again .... and then some more.
6. If i comm im at fault if we loose the game.
7. The comm never does upgrades so you get owned even by gorges.
8. If you own cause you got lucky and were given a shotgun the aliens call you a cheater and the admin (that plays aliens) kicks you.
then you are an honorable person, and if ony everyone was like you..
and yes... of course people have to leave, I dont deny that.
just strange how everytime it looks like marines are going to win, they start dropping off, as if to cheat the rines of that rare, and glorious win.
to be honest tho, I will still see it as a legitimate win if the aliens are a man, two.. or even three down.. because even then, its not that hard for aliens to win.. if they do, again, I still say i've had a very good game!.. and only then would I suspect the aliens would be cheering.

anyways i also see marine stacking ... but on the servers i play on its highly competitive for marines + aliens and the commanders are pwn
hamptons if any of you know about or have played there

Do you mean you <i>always</i> lose? This seems highly improbable (unless takin in account bad karma)
And think that it's a collective game. You're probably not the only one at fault (unless you specificaly try your best to screw your team)

That's wrong, comms do scan. They do it mostly
-when they managed to get the observatory
-when they are sending their squad to assault/noz caping etc.
Or usualy I do when I com.
Plus randomly firing from time to time in a corridor may prove to be useful to uncloak invisible aliens and/or structures. Just a gameplay tip.

That's very sad. I dont know why your com didnt equipped you with better gear but if you were following orders and sticking to your team, then he should have done it. Having as many well equiped soldiers as possible should be a must for every com, since it will add power to his task force.

Things like that happen.
It may be avoided by having people around you to keep the onos busy till the advanced base is secured or even defeat him before he takes out the entire outpost. PGs help alot here.

Having suffered from overdevouring myself I can understand your point. But dont make it like you were the only guy of your team who got devoured. Unless one of your fellow frontiersman tagged you in the back with a "DEVOUR ME!" sign <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well, people always expect coms to lead them to victory, but if they dont play well, they cant expect the com to override it. Victory as well as Defeat are every one's responsability. Same goes for the amount of fun anyone may take from playing the game.

You should tip him some clever advice. But still I encountered very few com that didnt at least upgraded weapons and/or armour to lvl2. Sometimes they just dont have the time to, depending on their building hierarchy and the progress of the karhaa and etc.

This may happen a few times, but if it keeps on repeating, then you should try to consider the option of doing good actions in order to inverse this bad-karma situation.
I only got kicked once, and it was due to limited-slotted capability and reserved slot issues I assume.
Still, I understand that you got bored.

You must have some incredibly bad coms on the servers you frequent. On the main pubs servers here if the marines get a sniff of sensory they'll immediatly scan and every base has forward observatories. Coms have learnt to combat sensory quite quickly here and it's not considered a good chamber to use first because it's so easy to counter.

I meant that by joining the marines i join the loosing team. Its not always like that but nearly always. Its soo often like that that you get the impression years have past since the last marine victory.
Sure there are times when the aliens are noobs or are so sure to win that they make big errors(no rts build all saving for onos) and at the same time the marines get a supercomm+superteam and pull of a win but thats maybe in 1 out of 15 games. Most of the time you will just loose as marines no matter how well your team performed.
Yeah, on my first games, Marines were losing so many times I had an headache each time I tried to keep the count of our losing parties...
It made the few victories much more enjoyable and memorables! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
On my last plays, still, the things were less unbalanced on the wins rating aspect, both aliens and marines managed to get victories.
I understand that if you get bored of losing as a marine, you choose to go on the alien side, but give it a try from time to time. You sound like you will never ever play on the marine side. That's what makes me sad.
<i>"You can't always win... but still you can't lose at each time either..."</i>
From John Woo's The Killer <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Note: i'm not sure the exact quote was that, but it's the general idea <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
It all depends on your server region. In my server region, people don't constantly stack aliens to an insanely unfair degree.
Coms are already able to, but it's a matter of personal strategy and measuring the strenght of the opposing force from him (plus alot of other factors).
I think that when there will be enough confirmed-to-good coms out there, this wont be an issue anymore. The fact is, yet the community lacks of good coms because it's hard to assume this role/nobody is willing to let you have a few try and mistakes etc. This was part of the many challenges NS tried to take, and the dev team must have been aware of that. Still, i think that this crisis will pass.
And then NS will take an entire new meaning, either side, because when clever coms will be standard on pub games, then even aliens will have to change their way.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I dont mind loosing a round as long as i had some fun with a JP or as a HA/HMG grunt or even as a basic soldier with a shottie. As I said in another topic, one of the many responsabilities a com assumes, is, above victory, the fun his team may have from the game.
As a com, I don't assume that wining is a requirement, since I may be opposed to far better players than I am. But still I take it as a requirement to insure that every body spends an enjoyable moment.
That's my top priority.
Of course, it can't be achieved if people are not willing to play the game (follwing orders and helping the team is part of the good play in my opinion), but for those who are, it should be a moment of fun.
Then if we can even win, it's even better. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Now that you mention that, I wondered for a minute how a game like CS, with models that just all look like practicaly the same and don't present any gameplay difference between each other was that good...
Well I forgot that you were able to choose your own gear and stuff <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Since I enjoy an awful lot playing as a Skulk, it wasn't obvious at first hand, but it's true that over a few period, I would find the game a little bit boring...
But still comparison between marines and aliens cannot really properly be done on this aspect <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Oh! and btw, I enjoy Skulks because they are so incridibly fast <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
That's particularly obvious when I "revert" to marine <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Maybe it's not Karma.
Maybe it's just you. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'm also a better gorge than most people I see, so forgive me for making the most of what I'm good at.
However, at the same time, if aliens are heavily stacked then i DO join marines, and i have switched teams to marine to keep balance.
The problem is with alien stackers who never switch to balance teams.
