Got F-zero Gx And Soul Calibur 2 Yesterday

I haven’t been playing my GameCube lately except for the occasional game of Ikaruga, but I decided to pick up SC2 and F-Zero, and they *bleep* rock. I don’t even like racing games much, but F-Zero is the fastest game I’ve ever played, and the track design is awesome. Going around full loops and on the inside and outside of pipes gives you a rush far greater than any other racing game I’ve seen.

The last fighting game I owned before picking up SC2 was the old PC classic One Must Fall 2097, although I was really into Smash Bros. for the N64 (the GC version is a little too floaty/spammy), I never owned it myself though. I’ve only recently been getting into console gaming and haven’t played the first Soul Calibur so I don’t have any of the usual complaints about it being too similar to the original. My only problem with SC2 is that the AI could be a little more varied. I know it’s meant for 2 players but I don’t have a second GC controller quite yet… since HL2 is probably coming out soon I need to save my money for that, unless I can find some way to get my hands on a little more cash. I played the tag team mode with a friend against the AI and it was still a lot of fun though.

All in all I’m really enjoying both and recommend them if you’re a console gamer, I haven't been seeing many console related posts around here lately though.

Cool. I want to try SC2, because of Link, as for F-Zero... I'll stick with the Extreme G series.

F-Zero beats Extreme G in pretty mush everything. It just doesn't compare to the speed or track design....

But as F-Zero GX hasn't come out in the UK yet I'll have to stick with Burnout 2 for a while!

bah, they took out my Sophitia and replaced her with some lifeless, drab Cassandra lady (or something). Sophitia and Lizardman will own you!!! (At least, if I used them, and it's the dreamcast version) [edit] omg, he forgot a paranthesis!!!! [edit]. Go Dreamcast....stone...dead..dreamcast....but Go anyway!

    Can't remember the name but it goes: B+Y -> X-> Y -- /\Y -- Y -- <X -> X -> Y ....or something like that...and you're done. Her unblockable attack was easy too...it was like ...hold Y+B and up....ahhh, the only fighting game I ever liked.

Back to SC2...no Sophitia; no purchase for UltimaGecko.

I'm pretty sure I've faced both Lizardman and Sophitia in SC2 arcade mode... I think they're playable but have to be unlocked in weapon master mode first.

Wootage for Sophitia and Lizardman then. I'll have to break out the big $50.

I'd have to start my dreamcast, but I think I have 59 (or 69) kills in survival mode with nightmare (I call it the: Poke, Poke, you're out move... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> that sword poke rocks). and 47 or so with Sophitia. Maybe it's more...can't remember, don't want to make myself out to be a master at the game or anything.

Nightmare is just so easy to own with...heh. Sophitia is just cool, and Lizardman, apart from being cool, holds basically the exact same move set as Sophitia.

I'll have to get it if she's in there. Shoulda figured she'd be hidden.

Listening to: Runaway Train... by Soul Asylum I think...meh
....one more 'Wootage' for Sophitia and the Jet Stream Rush.

I've seen some bits and peices of footage and screnies of F-Zero, and it looks fantastic. This year seems to be the year for me to be jumping on various franchise bandwagons (including Zelda with Wind Waker, and Mettroid with Fusion and Prime). So I'll at least be renting it sometime soon, although I doubt I will buy it soon because I'm saving for PC Halo and Halflife 2.

One of my suitemates here at college picked up F-Zero GX last night. That game is friggin sweet! It has intense speed, beautiful graphics, and responsive controls that really make the game fun. Oh, and I can not emphasize this enough, the game is incredibly fast. The intensity of the speed you can sometimes reach on some of the more insane tracks makes the game worth it in and of itself. Very fun. Makes me almost wanna buy a gamecube... almost.

    Uh....

How many F-Zero tracks did you play?

Like only 2 out of the god knows how many tracks had the "Tube Tracks" I take it you didn't play Fire Fields (Best Jump Evar!) Or the Half-Pipe, or the Big Hand or the Silence (The 1000 mph track)

F-Zero has the speed and intensity (30 racers at one time? Utter Pwn)

F-Zero is still one of my all-time favorites.. bust out the SNES and slap it in for a good couple hours of freaking painful near-futility, trying to even beat Mute City III on King/MASTER. You pretty much have to do three perfect laps. And be lucky enough for none of the CPU cars to get in your way. And boost/slide at just the right times. And... I'm definitely going to have to find a copy of GX, at least to try out... F-Zero in Gamecube beauty, on the widescreen HDTV, in Dolby surround? HOOK. ME. UP.

lol when I saw Talesin's post my automatic reaction was "Oh damn the topic was locked". That's like the 2nd time I've seen you post without locking a topic.

SC2 is great but way way way way way too much like the first one. WAY too much. The first one has more different kinds of missions and more art galleries too. It's a wonderful game but it's WAY too much like the first one.

F-Zero GX is TOO DAMN HARD! I don't want to spend 7/8ths of my game time losing! The difficulty curve started nice and low but jumped up to the moon. I woul have enjoyed more moderate challenges- as it is I feel like I've accomplished so little, and thus I have no motivation to beat the impossibly hard task in front of me. Still a great game though. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Not a buy for me.

So, anyone with GX. A quick couple of questions..

<li>Has anyone else managed to unlock the Diamond Cup?
<li>Anyone managed to unlock the AX Cup (without using the AX link, for those lucky nubs living near a MODERN arcade)?
<li>Anyone beaten *a* cup on Master difficulty? Even Ruby?

Additionally, anyone find the Diamond Cup to be much easier than the Sapphire or Ruby cups? I mean.. most of them are flat-out speed courses, and are loads of fun. Trident is a good one to multiplay against friends who haven't played before.. watch them get dizzy and fall off the edge repeatedly. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

On a similar note.. anyone know a code to unlock the AX stuff, without having to beat the first THREE cups on Master rank?
If not, I guess I'll keep plunking away.. but my custom vehicles (Acro Lynx-G4 {Longshot}, Super Horse-Z {Roulette}, and Jewel Mustang-V2 {Blackjack}) end up either lacking a bit in turning (Especially on that one tight right turn on Lightning: Loop Cross... must practice Drifting more) or end up completely popping up and off the course on any reverse-banked turns, as they're going so darn fast. Not something you can afford when you're trying for the Master-rank cup on Casino Palace: Split Oval. Frustrating to boost toward the finish line, only to have the ground sail out from under you, along with the guardrails.

Yeah I got the diamond cup, haven’t played it much though. I was really anticipating the final diamond track but IMO it’s really ugly D: I’ve been playing some multiplayer f-zero with friends and it’s kind of annoying because they don’t have much of a chance of winning against me :/ I guess I’d have to be facing other people who actually own the game to get some competition. Soul Calibur 2 is better for multiplayer cause it’s easier for new people to learn to play decently.

I also got F-Zero and Soul Calibur last week.

I regret not buying F-Zero X, but GX more than makes up for it. The tracks are awesomely designed, the frame rate is locked at 60, their are 30 cars going for the gold, and the speed is insane.

I must admit this game is challanging, especially story mode. I've yet to beat a very hard chapter yet.

One thing I love about this game is how Sega (Amusment Vision) decided to cram as much cool stuff as possible. Ton's of cheesy FMV's yep, theme songs for all 40 racers (some with lyrics), yep. Around 60 custome parts to make 8000 combonitions of vehicles. yep. Staff ghosts for every track that really show what a f-zero master races like, yep.

As you can see, I love this game.

As for SC2, I'm not very good at fighters, so I'm not very far in weapons master mode, but versus mode is awesome.

With the gamecube dropping in price this september, excuses to not own one are dwindling to zilch.

oh man, i bought sc2 yesterday and didnt play it till this morning. overnight I coulddnt get to sleep for 5 hours (i was up till 3:30 <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> )... this game is soooo freakin' fun. I use spawn almost exclusively and already on to chapter 8 in weapons master. my thumb hurts a bit now too. thats why i'm on the forums. (owie)

what would you guys recommend for training? Right now i use spawn against necrid on hard setting in practice mode. I can usually land a decent combo or two against him, but he usually pummels me back just as hard...

Soul Calibur 2 is sweet. I'm pretty good with Voldo (it's to hard to memorize more than one player's moves). I hear that F-Zero GX is frickin hard (almost impossible), but it does look sweet. I think I'll rent F-Zero first.
