I loved Ultima. Just owning my own house, making potions etc, it was the jerks who the upper heads just LOVED to support who didn't even roleplay, and ruined the game for others, that made me quit the game.
As I left, I bitched out one of those dudes in the red robes, it felt good.

AMEN! Finally someone that agrees with me. The only MMORPG, and I mean Mini Mutplayer Offline Role Playing game ^_^, I liked what Secret of Mana 1 and 2. Funny though, they're made by SquareSoft and it's not the same boring Select Your Moves Battle System. Now that I think of it... Harvest Moon, a farming RPG, is funner than any Final Fantasy. But that's my opinion. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> Secret of Mana 1 was AMAZING, that and Final Fantasy IV (aka II) were just..... ugh, I only wish I could find words to describe them.
Moultano, you design philosphy pwns! Although I'd want there to be someway that the "kill a cop and a bigger cop shows up" cycle can be broken. Although in GTA bigger cops showed up WAY too friggin fast. Of course Vice City isn't very large, but still. Maybe just kill off those corporate assault teams(good luck) and have 5 minutes of peace to get the hell out of there! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
A cyberpunk game like you described would work best for a 22nd century setting, as opposed to a 21st century setting IMO. 22nd century offers more possibilities(and makes more sense for all that really amazing cyberpunk and sci-fi stuff), and space hasn't even been remotely conqured, it's still a vast frontier.

but dr.d is the resident authority on the game hes been at it for like 5+ years, he has a few records like being the youngest charachter to pass every step in the society called VOLN (its complicated but suffice it to say it took over a year of constant work and he became a Master in VOLN at level 6 or 7, when people usually make it to masterhood (if ever) aty level 20+)
MMORPG, or GMUD are a good idea, but I still find myself attracted to old time classics which require the books, the dice, tons of sheets to make maps and sketches... and above all, tons of imagination. It's not the same, I feel, to describe the world with words, to put your imagination to use and think of strange plot twists and make both the world and the creatures that live in it, fit those plot twists. With computer-based RPG's, the world you see may look cool, as in most cases, but it always lacks the flexibility that the old rpg's had. It shouldn't exist places where the players can't be, but most certainly they can always be "persuaded" that such place is not... nice to be. But still the players now that they CAN be there, if they are willing to take the chances. That's why I still prefer the older versions, where the Dungeon Master, Storyteller, etc, decides what happens and what doesn't at the same time as the players decide what they do, instead of simply making limits for the player's actions. Sure, most players can't become god and destroy the world, but I have yet to see the MMORPG where you can pick a chair and smash it against the creep that's bugging you.
