<div class="IPBDescription">Ready Room...</div> I finally got off my arse and started ns_nova a few days ago, it's all planned out but only the RR is (pretty much) complete at this stage.

Enjoy, and any feedback is appreciated <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I do believe KungFuSquirrel (of eclipse and veil fame) has been working on a map called ns_nova for a while now. Hope you two can sort things out peacefully. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Of course, we'll solve it like men. I'm polishing my Kalashnikov as I post... I have multiple hands y'see?

    Splends! I like it a lot, very atmospheric. As Senór Mumbles points out, a little of that alien gestation texture would be nice near the join aliens door, but I can't think of much else.

    On the mapping side of things, I would suggest increasing the -gamma or decreasing the -fade in your compule settings, to make it a teeny bit darker and to give some definition to the lighting.
  • TequilaTequila Join Date: 2003-08-13 Member: 19660Members
    Yeah, I'll do a total revamp of the aliens side of things tommorow, plus I still have to resolve the following things:

    - Windows high up, looking out into space.
    - An open crate with something in, you'll see
    - The easter egg, natch. Suffice to say it's something special... mmm sibilance.

    Until then <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Gamma is at 1.5 at the moment, forgive my ignorance, but what is this -fade you speak of, Fam? I don't know many of the compile switches really...
  • FamFam Diaper-Wearing Dog On A Ball Join Date: 2002-02-17 Member: 222Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    The env_gamma entity and the -gamma compile switch are different. The first ramps the gamma of your monitor when the map is played, the latter edits the gamma falloff of the lights in your level on compile. Higher values of -fade makes shorter lights. Also try reducing your -bounce parameter.

    For ns_thea, I use -bounce 1 -gamma 0.7 for high contrast lights. Play around with a few of them, and the intensity values in your .rad file, you can get some nice lighting very easily.

    Well...um..the random team in the middle may be a bit hard for people to run past.

    I'll give it some experimentation then, cheers!

    Fear not, I've tested it and there's plenty of space to get around.
    I hope that the domination of the mighty Random Team will encourage more people to opt for it, rather than blatant favouritism <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'm gonna need confirmation from KFS that he's working on another (most likely inferior <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) ns_nova.
    I've been thinking of some other names, Meteor sounds half-decent, but I guess we'll see <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Oh my, I got quite excited when I saw the name and thought KFS was posting shots! But not to worry, because I wasn't dissapointed when I saw your shots, you're off to a good start there! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    My suggestions would be to play with the gamma as Fam said, and also I think it would be nice to add a little more detail - to the walls especially.

    Well done so far. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And finally, pipe supports. I may give these bad boys some lighting of their own.
