<div class="IPBDescription">It goes much deeper than MGS2...</div>Along with the rest of the world, I was disappointed and angered at the enormously stupid "Patriots" Illuminati-style conspiracy which anchored the plotline of Metal Gear Solid 2. And like the rest of you, I hope and pray that Metal Gear Solid 3 will learn from the past and not mess with any of this conspiracy theory silliness.
However, I was shocked to discover that Hideo Kojima's efforts to work the Patriots into game storylines was not limited to just Metal Gear Solid 2.
I was playing through Metal Gear Solid 1 (you know, the one with the good storyline) again, and I noticed something that I never really looked at in the right light before. It seems there is a short, small reference to the Patriots hidden within the original work of Metal Gear Solid! Pictures speak louder than words, so here is the evidence:
<img src='http://members.cox.net/doomaniac/metal_gear_conspiracy/mgs_1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
<img src='http://members.cox.net/doomaniac/metal_gear_conspiracy/mgs_2.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
<img src='http://members.cox.net/doomaniac/metal_gear_conspiracy/mgs_3.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
<img src='http://members.cox.net/doomaniac/metal_gear_conspiracy/mgs_4.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
<img src='http://members.cox.net/doomaniac/metal_gear_conspiracy/mgs_5.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
<img src='http://members.cox.net/doomaniac/metal_gear_conspiracy/mgs_6.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
<img src='http://members.cox.net/doomaniac/metal_gear_conspiracy/mgs_7.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
And that's not all. Apparently the plan to ruin Metal Gear Solid 2 by making the game be about Raiden instead of Solid Snake was well underway years before the game was even announced. There is a reference to Raiden hidden within the 1997 Gameboy Color game, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel (renamed Metal Gear Solid in the States for market appeal, I guess they think American's won't know a game w/o the exact same title). Again, here is the evidence:
<img src='http://members.cox.net/doomaniac/metal_gear_conspiracy/ghostbabel.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Now, I know that most of you don't care about this. But for the Metal Gear fans in the audience, this is something you'll no doubt find interesting to say the least. Let us hope that they don't screw up Metal Gear Solid 3 with this crap. Also let us hope that with the remake of mgs, The Twin Snakes, they don't decide to retroactively insert more links to the Patriots in our beloved Metal Gear Solid.

But in all honesty-I just finished MGS2 substance on xbox, and to tell you the absolute truth I didn't mind Raiden all that much. Yes, his animations made him look like a female, and yes he was a complete and utter wuss, but I was willing to put up with him for the story to progress. Think about it - how long would being Snake really be cool before it lost its appeal? For this reaon, they just <i>had</i> to do something. I'm sure something equally groundbreaking will be on the way in Snake Eater, so Doom: I wouldn't get my hopes up. There are only so many tears a man can cry <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Here's hoping for more Snake badassed-ness in the future!

it's a prequel? i didn't know that....
but i wasn't referring to it as a sequel? i still want massive amts of <b>patriot</b>ism.
I have absolutely no idea how it'll fit into the story but meh <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Conspiracy Theory=Kickass.
And good points D00M! I knew of the reference in MGS1 (as I'm one of the few who played/saw MGS2 first then MGS1) but not the one in Ghost Babel. As for SnakeEater and Twin Snakes, bring it on! <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->
I think I saw his portrait in the Patriot members picture list, the one that shows up periodically in MGS2.

There's always been a radio. In Metal Gear 1 & 2 it was a Transciever. In Metal Gear Solid 1 &2, and Ghost Babel, its the codec. Different names, same exact function.

... to contact the <i><b>PATRIOTS</b></i>...
gWAhAhahhAHhAHHAhAHAH.
Hideo Kojima said he introduced Raiden so you can get a different perspective on Snake, because you are so raw as Raiden and keep getting spanked by Solidus and comapny, Snake seems much better than he would if he was just the player because we have seen it all before in Metal Gear Solid.
Anyway my theory is that Metal Gear Solid 3 will have "Big Boss" as the playable character, as he was the bloke they cloned in "Les Enfant Terrible." OK so that is probably no great secret - sue me.
Anyway I love the music. Harry Gregson-Williams is great, and he gets bonus points for being English.
Plus Jim Houseman can't be a Patriot, because the Patriots have been dead for ages and they are no longer human.
Anyway 24>MGS on the old conspiracy front.
EDIT: Speaking of Patriots...New England for the SuperBowl <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
You mean the 60000 Hammer and Sickles on the website and trailer gave it away?
i can't even begin to imagine how awesome the gameplay will be...
erm....like MGS, but in a jungle, and animals acting as "rations"
Not so hard now is it? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

yeah, it sounds simple. but when you first play it... it'll probably help to set up a TV in front of the toilet? i didn't need to say that.. but just to get my point across =\
it also seemed kinda weird to mix hardcore political conspiracy with fantasy vampire characters and the like...
im gunna let the 3rd one 'sneak up on me', maybe ill enjoy it more..
Anyone know of some other games with great conspiracies?
And I don't mean the usual "Any game set in space" story line which goes something like this:
Humans vs Humans (Usually Religion vs Religion, Communist vs Capitalist, Theocracy vs Democracy)
First missions = kill evil humans.
Then you find an alien artifact and then aliens come and start attacking.
Then humanity has to unite against the aliens and save the day! Hurrah!
MGS3 do take place in Russia.
All of you MGS fans have a look on this site for MGS3 info.

BUT you MUST be registerd to be able to watch in the threads.
Must just quote this:

ROFL. And I thought blowing up the guards was funny.

How about Deus Ex? In my opinion, that's gotta be one of the greatest games of all time.

I sincerely doubt this is possible in the game. Hideo Kojima has always been more of a pacafist than anything, especially towards animals. In MGS he provides you with a way to get past the wolves without hurting any of them, and in both MGS's if you start shooting to many birds/rats/whatever you'll get a call on your codec calling you a sick puppy.
Snake eater is set in a JUNGLE. (yes, it does specifically say JUNGLE somewhere, not forest)
How many Jungles are there in Russia again? :/
I am convinced that Jim Houseman isn't Jim Houseman at all. In reality, he is actually Abraham Lincoln!
