Yea.. It took several hours to get the first defrag done but it didnt get all the fragmented file out so I had to run it like 2 more times... Took the whole day. But i tihnk Its ok now. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> I told her todefrag once everyother week now at least.
there is lots of little spaces in between the files, all these little spaces add up to "57%" when you defrag it, it rearanges the files so the little spaces are taken up and you are left with one big space at the end [/defrag for nubs]
How do you defrag your computer? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> I'm afraid to look at mine. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

whenever you reformat, do this to gain a little bit of performace, as soon as windows is on and running, turn off the pagefile (since it cant be moved via defrag) reboot, defrag twice and turn it back on, youll notice the pagefile is all in a single chunk, right near the core of the drive, only on top of windows. THEN install stuff. putting the pagefile near the faster core of a drive, along with packing all of windows there too makes the system about 5% faster forever. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> How do you turn off the pagefile? I'm still not 100% sure what a pagefile is... something to do with RAM I've read.

To turn off the page file right click my computer, go to properties, and then the Advanced and then the Performance settings button. then the advanced tab and then click the "change" button toward the bottom of that window...
The page file is virtual memory. It takes up a reserved space on your hard drive, and if thereis too much data to be stored in RAM, it writes to the page file.
Was thinking of doing this... have two drives, one with xp, one for games installed. Was thinking of quickly moving all the games folders to the windows drive really quickly, defragging the games drive, moving the page file to the games drive, defragging, then readding all the games folders back to the games drive. I think that'd leave the page file at the beginning of the drive, what do you guys think?

Start=>Programs=>Accessories=>System Tools=>Disk Defragmenter.
