Hey, Ozbirdboy. I think you sent me an email to me in regards to your map and the need for more city/ building textures.
It's true that the current NS wad doesn't include building and city specific textures. This was mainly because the theme of NS was , and still is, mostly based around space (such as spaceships, space stations, etc). There is no way I can anticipate all the various texture needs that mappers will have when they come up with different designs. While we encourage mappers to be creative in their ideas they have to realize that if they want to take a departure from the standard map design they will need to figure out how to deal with issues, such as creating a unique texture set that matches the look and feel of the NS ones, on their own.
Unfortunately I just don't have the time to make a lot of custom textures for various mappers who need new ones. I try to incorporate suggestions for needed textures when I work on new texure sets, and when I have some free time to make more later on I may try to make some textures for the official wad that would fit a city theme map.
But don't give up on your map idea. I have seen people using textures that I created in completely different ways from how I intended. With some creativity, and attention to architectural detail and map geometry, you may be able to pull of a city map using existing NS textures.
I've got to say that one thing you must work on (whilst the concept is great) is not how you can change NS to fit your map, but how you can change your map to fit NS.
I might suggest that, as Squeal Like A Pig said, you work on trying to do this idea using the existing NS texture set, or similar. Since this is set in NS it would look far too strange having the TSA running around a dilapidated 20th century city. Try making the city a bit more futuristic, imagine something like from Judge Dredd, or The Nomad Soul. You've gotta think, this is the future, it's not going to look the same.

Becuase we criticize does not mean we think his map is crap - far from it. If I thought his map idea was crap, I would not have taken the time to reply.
At any rate, in order to pull this map off I think you will need to be rather skilled at mapping to begin with, not to mention how creative you have to be. A city area would be great but just keep in mind that massive open spaces (I dont know if the smoke you plan on having would prevent entry, or if you could just walk through it) are not the best idea, however smaller areas are ok. Think about commander mode - try to never have two story buildings. I would love to see a city map that had what he wants (a little city, subway, and a sewer) that fit the feel of NS...
I agree with most of these comments. My own personal feeling is that this map CONCEPT has great potential, but in order to make it work you have to use NS related textures. Everyone has said this, but I dont think the mapmaker has seen the picture of Fades walking in a CS map. It just looks... unnatural.
ok guys thanks for all your different views and opinions. what i plan on doing is getting the layout designed first then i will start tomove onto implelmenting ns textures as people have suggested.
