SANTIAGO, Chile - Fishermen found the 39-foot-long carcass of a sea creature on a beach in the south of Chile, and conservation specialists were trying to determine if it was an octopus.
The creature, believed to be of the species octopus giganteus, was found near Los Muermos, 683 miles south of Santiago.
The remains weigh about 13 tons.
Elsa Cabrera, of the Cetacean Conservation Center, said that similar animals have been found recently in New Zealand.
Cabrera, who is a specialist in submarine photography, took samples of the creature to send to Italy, France and the United States to determine its species.
The find was originally believed to be part of a whale, but its size, texture and even the smell point to an octopus. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

PETA protest turns tragic as 100 protesters are electrocuted on the top of the submarine, The Nautilus. The protest was held memoriam for a giant squid some 39 feet long. Upon investigation of the carcass several broken spears were found, along with electric burns, tipping PETA off to the perpetrators of the act of animal cruelty. Captain Nemo unavailable for comment, and has been reported to have retreated to his secret island lair.

You should of seen the collosal squid they dredged up. Massive thing and they believe adults are around about 20+ metres long. Has a massive beak and hooks on its tentacles that can actually turn 360 degrees!
PS Molluscs are the kings of the ocean!
