I've been having a bit of a video card problem...
With my old radeon 9100, whenever i got a toast (the little popup alert) from MSN, most of the walls in half-life go see-through. I could put up with that, but since I installed this new Geforce FX, the entire screen goes blank instead, which as a real pain.
The system specs are <a href='http://www.predakanga/systeminfo/SI.xml' target='_blank'>here</a>.
I'm using the latest detonators and haven't overclocked the card (the page shows both speeds as 0 mhz, but core is 250 mhz, memory is 400).
I would have e-mailed NVidia or somebody, but it only happens in Half-Life (it seems to be all the mods).
Any ideas?

I suggest turning of all programs that once in a while gives you alerts or popups, as they most likely will affect your game in some way when they make a popup during game. Most of the time I can close the popup and continue the game with a darker screen, but it's very annoying.
So close MSN while you play is my best advice.
The thing is, another friend of mine, with the same system spec (but running SP1 and using D3D to play instead of OpenGL), doesn't get these...

2) don't use D3D unles you wana be wall hacking <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> (D3D has a tendency to mess up with HL)
3) as an explenation of the messing up though
basicaly HL hates it when you alt tab out. So things start borking, ALOT
Depending on the card different things will hapen. I am lucky in that witrh my GeForce 4 all that hapens is that the mouse stays visible in the center of the scrn. so yah, make sure there is nothing that will steal the focus of HL.
all I get is that my mouse is showing in the centre of my screen
and that my sound disappears. To get the sound back and to get
rid of the mouse pointer and get back the cross all I have to do
is to press "Esc" and then return to the game.
My question is: can anything serious happen whit HL if you TAB out
of it?
But to answer your question: The best thing to do is probably to shut down MSN.

see, there is one prob with that commie... I don't alt tab opn purpose, I do it b/c I am waitting to drop down an OC (my popupmenu is bound to alt) and then I wana check the scores (tab) and then I get thrown <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
same thing ussed to happen constantly in DoD (alt is secondary fire for me), I would be primming a nade, then wana check to see how I/some one was doing OOPS alt tab. Also in his case he dosn't know when a stupid pop up is gona come.
Another problem, if you press escape on my colleges lab machines, you get screwed up (again vid card problems). The simpelest solution, is make sure ytour all imortant (and it is all important) HL gamming IS NOT INTERUPTED!!!!!
