Actually, no wait. Don't do a damn thing. Hell, keep NS 1.1 locked up forever if you so please. If you release it before its beautiful what's the point at all?
All those waiting desperately for 1.1 to come out (this includes me) will just have to be satisfied to wait. Flayra's been more than kind by releasing TONS of information, screenshots, and even letting those who aren't directly involved playtest the not-quite-final product.
I say we all just invent a new way to twidle our thumbs, and just wait silently.
........Nah, I'm not gonna do it silently. ::Wait:: ::Wait:: ::Wait:: ::Wait:: ::Wait:: ::Wait:: ::Wait::
I'm as excited as the next person and know ALL ABOUT releasing a product that's "not finished" because of a deadline. How at the last minute you're rushing to patch up as many of the holes as possible with filler material usually and it doesn't turn out to be how you or the customer expected. For those of you who didn't get it by now I'm a programmer and have a lil' bit of experience in releasing things, 'cept my customers are Generals, Cols, Majors, and other military people
Anyhow, we usually have to end up supporting most products for at least 3 months before they're "on their own" to fix all the stuff they wanted in but couldn't be put in because of the time restraints. Now, I'm all for holding the game back so they don't pull a "Funcom" (Anarchy Online), but I do believe in a release in a somewhat timely manner (Duke Nukem Forever, or Daikontana? something like that, began with a D...). Flayra knows he's got an un-official release date, that neither him nor anyone else can really change. It's a date which is not set in stone where the hype will no longer support the game and all work will go down the tubes. He can't say "It'll be released in a month" because if it's NOT ready in a month, community will lose "faith" in his work. So even if he thinks he can release it tommorow, he really couldn't say, because things can happen and come up that can even change that date.
Anyhow, your whining for a release date will not be answered, it'll be ready when it's done. And even though he might KNOW when he thinks it'll be done, he's NOT GOING TO TELL YOU. I'm quite sure he's watching the balance of the community even as we speak so he can time it right and release it on time and with as much gusto as the community will let him put into it.
MY personal opinion, I'd say he's got about till the end of this month before the community starts to collapse. It's not something he or anyone else wants to hear, but I was always one to tell the truth as plain as day.
God I remember waiting for N64 games to come out... I waited years for some games that ended up never appearing on that console, but ended up on Gamecube instead (Metroid Prime for example - that was 'in development' for years)
I think I can wait for 1.1 easily - unlike what seems to be a significant number on these forums who find 1.04 boring/unbalanced and so on. I think 1.04 is still well worth playing, and I wouldn't get bored of it if 1.1 took another year to finish. Just as long as the finished product is good, I don't mind waiting (and i KNOW 1.1 is gonna be good).
Have faith in the devs people!
See that's just my point though. There are people who will stay with this game till doomsday even if Flayra doesn't release 1.1 EVER. But a large majority of the people will NOT and therefore, it will become just another game. Flayra is past the point where everyone will leave, he just won't ever achieve the fan base other great mods have (TFC, CS). Whether he wants to achieve this or not nobody knows...
Personally? I think I'd just stick around for the forums if nothing else
The Version 1.1 is Done When its Done, stop asking for it.I prefer a package whats bit more polished than a package wich is ugly.Just wait patiently like most of us do.Your Stressing The Developers wich means that it takes LONGER to make that version.Flayra or the team aren't geeks who are in front of computer 24 hours a day with power of coffee/cappucino.

Playing the different versions of 1.1
All the playtesters right now are pros, and are organized. Why not just release it as is, and see how it works on pub servers? Why not let those of us that are willing to play through the many revisions help? I mean, we've played from 1.0, 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, 1.04, and we stuck through it. In fact, I always looked forward to the next revision. Probably adaption to change was one of my favorite aspects of this game. It only got boring when all the games were the same (which is NOW).
As time went by, new strats came out, then eventually, games stabilized as no more strats came out. Then, a new version came out, and the creativity started all over again. It was a cycle that was really fun.
but now, 1.04, which we all know for a fact is an outdated version, is left stagnating. People have stopped playing, as they are waiting for 1.1.
Release 1.1, the only thing it can do is help. The community will be rife with discussion, flames, debate. People will get riled up over problems, people will swear they'll quit over something, and everyone will be having a good time The devs will see what the mainstream likes, what they dislike, etc...
Really, I don't understand why 1.0x was developed with the community, and 1.1x is not.

1.1 wasn't developed to attempt to avoid what happened with the vets. A lot of vets left because even though they "knew" the game was beta, they thought that their voices weren't being heard, and they game was not going in the direction they expected.
Imagine the same scenario except with 15,000 players, half of which are newbies to the game.
P.S. Oh yes, and the vets were picked by devs and admins. These were people they expected to perform to a higher level of testing and understanding of gameplay.

It seems like the majority of the tweaks being done nowadays are balance fixes, which are fine -- but if the game gets TOO balanced, you end up with a game like Tribes 2, where you can't place mines within 10 feet of each other or place too many turrets close by, and pretty much everything is useless except for bombers and such.
It is, however, true to a certain extent that the community at large is stagnating. I, along with friends I know, have largely quit playing NS until 1.1 is out. The game is fun, sure, but it got boring months ago. There are the hardcore fans that will stay with NS until the end, but it looks like NS is following in the fate of Front Line Force, with a successful initial release, but the next version is so delayed that nobody plays anymore.
