Time to release 1.1
You know what the public would have enjoyed? Playing the different versions of 1.1
All the playtesters right now are pros, and are organized. Why not just release it as is, and see how it works on pub servers? Why not let those of us that are willing to play through the many revisions help? I mean, we've played from 1.0, 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, 1.04, and we stuck through it. In fact, I always looked forward to the next revision. Probably adaption to change was one of my favorite aspects of this game. It only got boring when all the games were the same (which is NOW).
As time went by, new strats came out, then eventually, games stabilized as no more strats came out. Then, a new version came out, and the creativity started all over again. It was a cycle that was really fun.
but now, 1.04, which we all know for a fact is an outdated version, is left stagnating. People have stopped playing, as they are waiting for 1.1.
Release 1.1, the only thing it can do is help. The community will be rife with discussion, flames, debate. People will get riled up over problems, people will swear they'll quit over something, and everyone will be having a good time The devs will see what the mainstream likes, what they dislike, etc...
Really, I don't understand why 1.0x was developed with the community, and 1.1x is not.

I never said release it now.
I said release it before we take any dramatic changes as to the direction of NS.
1.1 isnt to be released until its been decided that its been complete.
However, we obviously can't keep fixing every single thing that ever been a problem. Some certain problems such as the ones mentioned in Dracos post will probably take a long time to fix. We put that aside, we release 1.1, then we work on the things mentioned in Dracos post.
Sorry if anyone misunderstood, it came as quite a shock to see the title. Well at least the second part, I'm never surprised to see anyone say im right :P
Well, that wasn't the impression I got
In any case, the complaint about so many changes is valid, but they could slow down the rate of version changes. Right now, flarya is tossing things in willy nilly, to see how it works, because he CAN. That's not bad, just a major benefit of having a small testing group.
On the other hand, there's the fact that if it was more public, then flarya would have to wait and make multiple changes at once. This is not necessarily bad, but I'm sure Flarya wouldn't like it.
But at the same time, putting it more in the public eye would increase the information gathered, and more opinions on the way it is moving. This can't be bad. It will keep people playing, as they will want to play and learn new versions. I just don't see how cleaning it up and releasing it as is right now would be bad.

I doubt anybody has any idea. So lets not make assumptions, we all know what happens when people make assumptions and your already 0-1. mmmm k ?

Exactly. People, I need to point something out. Flay is the most "profesional" yet, accessable Dev I've ever seen. He shows up on the forums much more frequently than any other Game Dev I've heard of, AND, he has a pro attitude, and does the kind of work EA Games, Taldren, Interplay, and Activision would KILL for. *I think his stuff is soo much better than thiers, actually. It gets updated more often, AND IT'S FREE!* So, let's not take out our 1.04 frustrations on Flay, or the PT's. 1.1 isn't ready. I can suck it up, and play 1.04 till my eyes bleed. And, if your really need something to do while flaming ppl on the forums... Windows Solitaire is a really addictive game.........Oh, and just like NS, you didn't pay a dime for the right to play it!

Well said Macguyvok.
ie: Metabolize lasts alot longer than 1 sec
That wont go over well on a pub... Let's wait til 1.1 is done til it's released.
And now even more balance changes are being done, thus extensive testing must be done to make sure none of the changes backfire (and some did as you can clearly see in the beta discussion [a GOOD call on his part to let us see it, because now we know why it's taking a while]). Personally I would hate to have 1.1 released now, because it's premature state is a little unbalanced and not all features have been implemented (I think the marine mini-map is not completely ready yet). And I think there's a bug or two somewhere as well.
Well said Macguyvok.

I would also have to agree
Seriously, this is one of the reasons it stays in closed beta until Flayra is satisfied. How many people would have 'fun' playing on a Marine team, when they can _never_ kill a Fade? Ever? No matter how many HMGs are firing on it, nor how many GLs are lobbing at it, just calmly wandering around and taking out your base? Just one of the bugs to be ironed out, along with balancing. Truly, it isn't that we have a finished version of NS that we're kicking back and playing. We're wandering through levels, looking for stuff that could make the game not-fun for *everyone*.
Patience is what is needed here. Look at the time spent waiting for 1.1 as just making it better and better when it *does* arrive. As with how it looks, it's gonna rock your world. But we want that to be in a GOOD way, with all the euphoristic bliss of the original v1.0 release... but with better gameplay than just turreting up the joint.

i second that
also agree with Talesin, man you guys are impatient. ive had to wait *AGES* for any info on homeworld 2 it killed me, now ii discover it wont run on my computer so i have to wait *ages* for a more powerful set up. i can wait... learn to wait... patience is a virtue.

I think the apparent large number of versions 1.1 has/is going through would lead some to conclude that all is not proceeding to plan exactly. While I think that "willy nilly" is somewhat harsh I can understand where that remark originated from.
I think Flayra's talent speaks for itself.
I'm not sure I really buy into the whole "you didn't pay for it so .... x" where x usually implies that you should behave and not complain or participate in some other negative activitiy. While money may not be involved for the players, time is. Developers, players, PTs, Vets, Newbies,Oldbies,Clanners ... everyone has a time investment in the game (obviously some alot more than others). Everyone wants the game to be great and fun right ? For that to happen feedback (constructive hopefully) needs to occur.
As much as thing we have someones reasons and motives pinned down, we have no idea. Trying to truely explain the rhyme or reason behind any persons action is naive.
Please, Don't take any offense anyone.

Amen. I've been killing for 1.1, and checked almost everyday for updates, but those who have owned a N64 back in the day have learnt to wait for excellent games that kept getting delayed - and players had no choice but to wait - this is exactly the same. Simply because we have the ability to discuss directly to the Devs PT's etc, doesn't mean we have the right to demand what we want. Flayra knows what he is doing, and like so many people and companies like him have proven - patience pays off. As mentioned, 1.1 is buggy, and people would become quickly wise to this, and the whole gameplay level of fun will deteriorate pretty fast.
But at least they are testing 1.1 enough. I don't know if any game, let alone mod, has been tested well enough before. But it looks like NS has. They have playtesters and they have veterans, they have a competitive mode and a public mode. The game's development is truly progress and I hope it stays that way and never gives in and becomes moronic like CS did.
Just wait a little longer.
and that is in 200 years, and then everybody has stopped playing NS
Currently we've been playing the same maps and using the same strats for a long, long time. (well those of us forced to play on cruddy servers because of download limits anyway)
ps I've also known a couple of clans that stopped playing 6 months ago to wait until 1.1 was released because of the state of the resource system. people really are giving the game up from boredom...
Even if its 1.1icanthinkofanythingelse
This is pretty much the most intelligent explanation of the situation I have heard in NS history. I will make one clarification: you have all the right in the world to demand anything. But we also have the right to ignore you - and we tend to excercise that right as much as possible.
Rock on SLX, you are the:
Now think about this: a little bit ago, two patches were released in the span of less than 48 hours (I'm pretty darn sure, at least). You'd never find a server with the correct version at that rate, because some don't bother to update for weeks!
It won't get them off your back, but it gives the hopeless something to do whilst they pine away for final version release super fantabulous 1.1.
Now, to try the new smilies that I haven't seen yet, as I've been off the boards awhile.....
