So far I'm running it on the default settings on a linux server and it seems to work fine <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I run this mod with both CVARs set at 142 (1000 divided by 7 roughly). This feels the most 'normal' to me. I installed this plugin as a way to allow low end users to be able to jetpack and it seems to work OK. It just feels more sluggish than standard flight though. Without the plugin its fairly easy (on a decent PC) to zoom around big open maps and stay airbourne for ages. With the plugin, movements are slower, almost as if friction is acting on you more or something.

good work, I think you will make LB and many of the people **** w/ JP's on Nano happy <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
it's nice to see a little tweak for 1.04 that many people have wanted <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Crash: With recharge rate greater or equal to discharge rate, I would think it would be possible to still fly more-or-less indefinitely with a high enough frame rate. You might still see the early appearance of the Hive-Killing Giant Death Bees (aka JP/HMGers), so watch out. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Lightning Blue & DarkFrost: are you still seeing early JP/HMG wins? If not, I'm not sure it's necessary to change anything else like research time, etc. After all, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, as the saying has it.
(I do know a JP rush was attempted on powersilo and 4 outta 5 went splat) <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Sounds like the settings are at least close to right then - it should be tempting to try the JP/HMG tactic, but somehow just not quite work. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
After an actual test, it was found that 300 discharge and 200 recharge allowed infinite hovering at 60 FPS.
Set it to 500 discharge and 150 recharge and it seems to have fixed it for all but 100 FPS users.
More jumpjet instead of jetpack <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

personally I like jetpacks as jump packs, becuase it enables jumping to avoid aliens to the extreme, becuase you jump about 10 feet and come down and do it again, but it's still very easily counterable, but enables you to avoid aliens for the most part, moreover it's easier to do that jping @ 60 mph and doing a ninety degree turn while flying.
[edit] when I connected to nano I noticed the plugin was on, but I didn't notice it when I was in game with a JP, so I like it becuase I definetly ran out of fuel alot faster, but JP's were still one of the viable strats [/edit]
After playing on Nano, I'm pretty sure that LB is right.
With 500 discharge and 150 recharge, the JP is still pretty damn useful (especially if you don't suck at flying as badly as I do, I'm awful) but apparently devoid of infinite-hovering death-bee syndrome. Having said that, I only get about 75fps usually, so maybe with 100fps you can still hover infinitely. One of you high fps guys should go try it out on nano and report back. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
nice jp fix imo got it runnign on my server 195.149.21.203:27015
Running mainly custom maps from Liku's Map pack and an assortment of plugins
I was always getting unlimited fuel with 100fps and now i dont and tbh it ruins custom maps like siege, missilecommand (vairants) nomblizkikko4 etc coz of jp hmg rush. So no marines are using HA or JP in very strong groups which is great mroe teamwork and more chance for aliens <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I just added this plugin to the Punk A$$ Fraggers NS Server (198.172.110.212:27015) and I also added it to the <a href='http://ns.punkassfraggers.com/plugins/index.shtml' target='_blank'>Server Plugins Page</a> on our site.
To LB and other clan server admins - if you can convince another clan to have a match with JPN running, I'd be really interested to know the results.
Hell, I'd be really interested in spectating or seeing a demo. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You can fix the version # for people filtering on it by just changing the value of the cvar to the correct one (0.03).
If people care enough about it, I can make v0.04 which just updates the version #.
There is a problem for high ping + high fps users. They fly very high, then can't control how fast they come down (because thrust is large on high fps), and end up dying a LOT...
I've had to remove it from the server as I have a few regulars having these difficulties (and many others aren't taken with the plugin) Sorry, it's a good idea but the thrust is the key part of it I'm afraid <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Keep on working on those plugins though it's a real asset to the community!
It may be possible to cap fall-rate (jetpack emergency thruster?), which would fix the problem you're describing and effectively enforce "gentle" landings while using the jetpack.
As for fixing the thrust problem all the way, I don't think it's really doable from a metamod, because the jetpack seems to generate sideways thrust as well as vertical. I could be wrong on that, but that's how it seems to me at the moment. Maybe (but just maybe) there's a way of making it so that the thrust vs. framerate issue is fixed for vertical movement only. However, that might make the jetpack movement seem kinda weird.
Unfortunately, I'm about to go on holiday to the east coast for a week and won't have internet access from a machine I can develop on.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback, Roo - have other server admins had similar issues? I'll try to keep an eye on the forums while I'm away, and if other people are having the same kind of issues maybe I can come up with a fix.

JPN v0.04 is now available <a href='http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=76903' target='_blank'>here</a>. The change in this version is the addition of a new server variable, jpn_jp_maxfall, which controls the max fall rate for jetpack users. The default setting should remove falling damage entirely - the more you raise it, the less the "emergency thrusters" will work.

Instructions for downloading either WhichBot or JPN are <a href='http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=76903' target='_blank'>here</a>, linked to from the download page. You can even browse the source code directly from the CVS browser on that page.
As to why I don't just source code - well, 99.9% of users don't care, so there's no point cluttering the distributable. For the rest, if they can't even use anonymous CVS they probably can't modify the code anyway.
