Apparently there's not a single guitar solo on the entire album, and with Kirk Hammet in the line up, I have no idea how they let that happen.
Needless to say, I'm rather dissapointed, but I'm still a fan, as I like everything they've done up till now. I can't believe they sold out to the nu-metal crowd like this. Bah.
I lovez0rz the nu metal, but I also like the old stuff that Metallica has put out... I think most people would be happy if Metallica just stopped and played their old stuff til they all die, then just replace all the band members and keep the name.
Why do people insult the black album? It hasnt left my cd changer since I bought it.
neither has kill em all and master of puppets
I actually like the St. Anger song itself, I grabbed the video off Kazaa (eat that lars) And I can say for sure that Metallica has lost its touch, it Stinks like pop music...
Holy crap, I was listening to the radio on the way back from the gym last night, and they were playing this god-awful, generic, aggro-rock song, and I remember thinking, "Wow . . . if this isn't some sloppily contrived attempt to cash in on the current trend, I don't know what is-- it almost sounds like they're playing this with borrowed instruments and a gun to their heads. Wonder what forgettable band this is . . . ."
I thought it was a one hit wonder . . . turned out to be a new cut from the Metallica album.
Yeah, I agree with everyone: You won, Metallica-- there's absolutely no way I'd download any of that garbage.
ONE! Best metallica song eveh! (but thats my opinion)
Other favorites include Fade to black, Unforgiven, and Nothing else matters.
The machine gun is kewl!

my 2 cents: i never really liked metallica's music, but I respected it, because they wouldn't be named one of the all time great bands if they sucked. now, i've hated, and i mean HATED metallica since that whole napster controversary. screw metallica i hope they realize they suck now.
I just saw St. Anger on mtv, I'm sure not to buy their album. I never realized they could do so...so...I can't even verbally phrase how much it sucked. Singing was absolutely BAD, No solos = BAD and the whole song just didn't really say anything. I was truly surprised.

QUOTE

You guys suck for trashing a album... this pretty much says it all, and its sadly true.

Actually, it's about as wrong as most of the spelling and grammar it contains. People who hear the music off the new album are sheep for . . . disliking it? For having an immediate, visceral reaction to some of the songs and dismissing the 'art'?
Seems to me they're being asked to be good little sheep and happily agree with every different 'artistic' direction these longstanding bands take, and mindlessly shell out their money for the album, so they can listen to it over and over again before deciding that it sucks.
I mean, that's the subconscious little message here: "Don't diss the music right away! Buy the album first, and then make up your mind whether or not you want it!"
Edit and minor rant: And I just read that ramble again, and I've got to say, I have no respect for Mr. Sixx. Look at how he tries to remove all accountability from the artist-- his basic message is, 'If we try real hard, then you have to like our stuff and respect it."
People reacting badly to an album is not because of the crappy album, but because of "A UNVERSAL[sic] SOCIEL[sic] SICKNESS"
Of course, "SOME FANS ARE LIKE ******* ROTTWIELERS[sic].YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHEN THERE[sic] GONNA TURN ON YOU…" Give you a hint, Nikk-- it usually happens when they pay good money for a bad album. Fans aren't allowed to change their opinion based on the declining quality of your music? Huh?
Rock music isn't the Special Olympics. It's a cut-throat business, and you don't get points just for trying. If you're good, you get money, respect, fame, and more tail than you can shake a stick at.
But you're not entitled to all these things just because you gave it the ol' college try.
i like the one about whiskey in a jar, but not enough to download it, and no i dont own a single metallical cd, and no i havent pirated any metalicca music either!

I wish that Metallica goes back to instrumentals. Their instrumentals pwned. I think the fact that Cliff Burton died was the reason that Metallica is how they are now (not as good as they could've been). I think they just didn't know where to go.
And St. Anger is okay... just listened to the first three songs... Also, Metallica was more Thrash Metal than Speed Metal. Listen to the beats in MOP. Thrashy, isn't it?
Indeed, Call of Chtulu is one of my favorite songs. Excellent instrumental.
As far as my absolute favorite song, I'd have to say One. But Am I Evil is pretty close.
On a related note, has anybody heard the new cover KoRn did of One? Gah.. just... gah.. Not as bad as the bastarization that Kid Rock did to Sad But True...

Meanwhile - I noticed today that Opeth have a brand new record out, so there's still excellent non-nu metal being made for us all.
