Here's a short story to keep you guys happy.

We marines were assulting the cargo hive in Nothing, and I was the grenade launcher man. Everything was going to plan, and we destroyed the hive with barely any fighting. Just then, I believe a lvl 4, a flyer, and Bob rushed in. I took a look at my health and it was 12 or so and falling rapidly due to a flyer's spore cloud. I quickly uploaded my launcher thinking I'll be able to take at least one with me. Right when I was about to die, the grenades went off. My dying vision beheld the chaos of explosions and the deaths of all the alien attackers.

@cork2, 6 Weeks is the normal time of summer vacation in Germany Bavarya. After these 6 Weeks the new "school year" (Schuljahr) begins. Ontop of those 6 Weeks come another 5 Weeks of normal holiday split up into 2 x 2 Weeks (Christmas and Widson) and 1 Week (Easter).

Is that alot more than in comparison with England or America?
• Cork2Cork2 Join Date: 2002-07-10 Member: 905Banned

Man, Hida...that assault on the Nothing cargo hive room was absolutely crazy! I'm pretty sure I was the flyer that splattered you and your teammates, but it was just insane! Picture the entirety of a 5v5 (I think it was 5v5, couldn't have been that far off) server converging on this hive room, all just about at once. Aliens lobbing biological weapons like acid bombs, spikes, spores, and yes, even themselves at the marines, marines retaliating with a storm of bullets and grenades. The marines survived the attack and went on to lock down the hive room. Even though I was on the losing side, I couldn't help but be in awe of the sheer intensity and chaos that went on.

This isn't a story, but it was the first time I did this, so it was a lot of fun. I evolved into a lvl 4 on NS_Nothing, which for your information is full of many tight winding corridors and a cool "streaky" feel. Well, the new hive sight now not only tells you that something is under attack, but labels the room and tells you who or what is under attack. Very cool, and the first time I'd seen it. Well, I hear that the viaduct hive is under attack. Realizing that the marines have to go down an elevator to get there and reading/hearingnd that Monse is under attack in the viaduct (and whenever Monse is under attack as an alien, mariens WILL die). Well, I begin my long trek toward the general area of the Viaduct hive, as the death messages roll in. Walking around a corner leading to the elevator, I remember that I had chosen to evolve "Shhhhh" which allows me to have no sound while walking. No I feel mighty sneaky. Shooting around a corner in total silence, I run right into a marine with a shotgun hightailing it to the aformentioned hive. 1 Slash and he is sliced in two. Well, the hive is still under attack and Monse finally dies defending the hive. Well, I poop my pants. I run as fast as my very quiet self can. Running right toward the hive, I choose to enter on the left instead of the right, hoping that the marines are on that side. There is some guess work involved in utilizing the hive mind. Going around a corner, I begin clicking ahead of tiem with my slashy slash. Well, whoopsee. Im across from three very irate marines, who had taken the other way in. Theres a good 5 meters to cross and they all have shottys and one has a GL and another, a heavy machine gun. Well, this is not cool, I charge right toward them slowly (now I wish I had taken the speed upgrade instead of the silence) and begin to slash just as I am shot to pieces and exploded (not that they had to). Well, I guess I deserved that . .

Lessom of the story: If you take stealthy upgrades, go a stealthy role. And if you try to be stealthy and hit them in the butt (like I did), make good guesses.

Here ya go, a nice long one... I was a marine this game.

We played a long and difficult game on ns_Nancy (devildog's map), which started with the creation of a field base outside one of the alien hives. It was hard battle for that hive; Fam had gone level 4 and SIMPLY... WOULD... NOT... DIE! He was really smacking us and our turrets around, too. Finally we pushed on into the hive, I with my new favorite weapon (/me pats his HMG), and took it out. While I provided cover fire, the other marines quickly set up turrets to make the aliens think twice about coming back.

We moved fairly easily to the second hive and took it down pretty easily... then it became time to assault the final hive. The game had gone a LONG time, and there were very few resources left on the map; this means LMGs versus Level1s, for the most part. I still had my HMG, but while we were moving down the corridor my entire team was wiped out around me by a few level1s. Tommyd, my commander, told me to hold my position and wait for backup. Let me tell you, even with a HMG and holding just a corridor, you get lonely REAL fast. Finally 3 marines come around the corner and I say "MAN I'm glad to see you guys." Then it's on to the hive.

What was in this hive? A level2 - not a great attacker, but his ranged spit weapon is good if you've got cover - pulling our health down at a distance, and pretty much a wave of level1s jumping us as they respawned. Not only that, but I went around the corner and saw a *tower* of turrets and defensive chambers, all directly between the doorway and the hive itself. Try as we might, we couldn't push past the combination of the turrets, level2 flanking us, and level1s rushing at us. We went down pretty fast, and kept running back to keep the assault up.

Finally, I respawned and said "Tommy, I'm sick of this; gimme a Grenade Launcher." He had just enough RPs for one, which he dropped in front of me. I loaded up and headed back to the hive. The first grenade ended that annoying little level2. The next two clips reduced the tower of turrets to a bad memory. And while the rest of the team took out any spawning aliens and covered me, I emptied my entire stock of grenades into that damn hive. A minute later, we'd won the game.

Ah, yes I remember that game. Basically we always had at least one marines outside that hive. Often it was just one (the teammates would die and then spawn and run back). I tell you few things make you feel more lonely than being stuck in a hallway right outside of a hive with a lvl 2 and a few Bobs to keep you company.

I absolutely have to get a mic to play NS. Voice comm is almost essential, it seems, to teamplay and atmosphere, as well as commanding.

Edit: School on August 6th? Ouch. Mine starts early September here in Canada.

A NEW PLAYTEST HAS BEGUN AND SO, THIS THREAD, THIS BEAUTIFUL ANTHOLOGY MUST BE RESURRECTED.

Well, I only got in 4 or 5 games, but there was a rather fun moment. We were playing NS_Nothing. We had the 2 hives on the right side of the map in our control as aliens, and I was playing as a builder. Comprox and a flyer were attempting to retake the hive to the far left using an Umbra/Spike gun combo (Lvl 4 protects the lvl 3 with umbra while the lvl 3 spike guns the buildings.) It was not working very well as the marien were pumping hsots into the vent. Well, I inform my teammates that I am going lvl 2 and Comprox says "No, we need you to attack". Well, Okie dokie. As soon as I evolve to a lvl 2, I evolve up to a lvl 4 and evolve a speed upgrade and a carapce upgrade. Well, I shoot off to that final hive location real quick like. I hear the sounds of grenades being pumped into the vent that Comprox is in.
This will not stand. I flash around the corner and assess the situation in a split second. Three turrets, 3 marines, one right by me. Whip, Slash. I slice the nearest marine in two and than shoot back down the hallway away from the turrets. I managed to escape without taking a single bullet. Well, One of the marines gives chase, I hide behind a corner, and swirl around and catch his intestines and slide them out. Charging through the heat of battle, high off of the adrenaline, I slam right past the turrets to the ecstatic typing "Yeah! Humbaba!" and step on a grenade.
Shucks.

* Named edited, it was Comprox, not Chrome ya fool *
