My Console Gamepad Pwns Your

<div class="IPBDescription">keyboard/mouse *SMACK "Ouch!"</div> What is with people who insist that for playing a first person shooter, a default console game pad just owns ("pwns" what ever) a keyboard and mouse? My console friends said this to my and my PC loving roomate. I was like "WHAT DID YOU SAY!?!?"

Plus we all knowhere how keyboard/mouse destroys a game pad in a FPS. Espscialy the xbox controler. I played my friends xbox in college. With my tiny asian hands I kept thinking i was holding a god dang pillow or something.

We had to settle this somehow. On PS2 there is a USB spot for a keyboard and mouse. OMG whats this for i asked? maybe to play a FPS?

We plugged that in and played some games. gee Guess who one? Even with never playing that game ever, we still won.

maybe playing with sniper rifles was just to hard for the ol game pad. Try to jump, crouch spin around and then zoom in and shoot with a game pad. You cant really jump crouch in a console, so thats probably y level designs are so bland and plain in consoles. (Think any inside level in HALO).

But anyways, repeatidly try to angle your self to get in the the vent, fiddle with buttons and finaly get in. Then when you want to aim the sniper rifle you have to stop moving, press button to zoom, and then screw around with the second joy stick trying to line up a head shot. Then you can try to fire, but wait, the target is moving! uh oh better try to unzoom and use that joy stick to hit him!

With keyboard/mouse
jump/crouch, right click, left click, =frag

or if target moves

point mouse, click.

On another note, heres an ingenius way that microsoft made a newbie marketing error and lost potential millions of dollars in sales.
Considering South Korea is one of the biggest video gaming nations in the world. The % per population playing video games in SK is more or equal, (probably more then that in the US.) For example when it was released, more copies of StarCraft where sold in SK then in the US and Canada Combined. Plus the world PC gaming Olympics was started in SK. Dont ask me why it just is.

Sk has a trade embargo with Japan (thats what happens when Japan invades your country twice and commits war crimes and uses the civilian population as slave labor) so no one there has PS2 or Nintendo or whatever. Thats why everyone plays PC games over there. Still however, many Sk kiddies and gamers have known about the consoles for years with the internet, travel, magazines whatever. However with the invention of an American made Console, South Koreans could finaly get a console.
"YAY MS is making a console and its US made so we can buy it!"

Hundreds of eager people waited and pre-ordered their console. MS marketing spent lots of $$ in South Korea on add campaines to get people all psyched up for the new US made console. In fact there were several bets going on as to where in the world the most Xbox units would be sold. The US, Europe, South Korea?
Probably not to many in Japan b/c those kids are probably already playing PSX by now. (Incase you didnt know Japanese kids were playing N64 long long before we ever even knew about it in the US)

Xbox is released...
Uh OH!
Too bad we AZNs have slightly smaller hands, and like I said, unless you go spend more money buying a custom controller..Like I said, when I played it I got hand cramps trying to grip this console controler thats like 2x the size of my head.
Ooh, what a mistake on Microsofts part.. Someone in design or marketing must have gotten liquidated for that one.. ouch

But anyways South Koreans are all PC gamers hands down.

i find a keyboard so much easier to use than a game pad

LOLz I cant belive someone actually said that game controllers were better thank keyboard/mouse

Too funny, you summed it up so I wont go into detail but the very small fact that you have 101 keys to bind on a keyboard makes a diff yes? and I cant imagine how a thumb would ever be as good as a whole hand at aiming... but thats just me

Everything in its place... Playing FPS's with gamepads is wrong like putting cheese on chocolate is wrong (no, don't give me your culinary preferences, I'm not listening). On the other hand, I'd like seeing someone play Devil May Cry with a keyboard.

Cheese and chocolate is actually pretty good.. the flavors are so far off that they mesh and amplify one another.

I'd draw the metaphor as trying to drive a car with tires made of live cats. Attempting to open a can with a hammer. Cooking a meal in the carcass of a dead whale. Playing a video game on a macintosh. You get the idea.

The point is, there's a proper tool for each situation, as opposed to having to beat yourself over the head with five pounds of badly-moulded plastic. Besideswhich, the x-bucks controller is just a badly ripped-off, oversized version of the Dreamcast's controller, without the abiity to have an LCD-enabled memory card integrate into it and look like it belongs there.

Which games can be played with a keyboard/mouse? Like where can I get full details on plugging my comp's keyboard and mouse into my PS2?

Sorry console kiddies, but this is the fact of life. I love listening to my hardcore console fanboys rave about all the stuff consoles are getting...

"OMG!!111!!ONEONEONE!11! PS2 AND XBOX HAVE INTERNET GAMING! I CAN PWN SOMEONE HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD!"

"Uhm... online gaming has been around for a LONG time before now.. its not some revolutionary thing"

"BUT OMG I CAN GET ONLINE AND KILL PEOPLE!!11!!ONEONE!"

"As I said before.. its been done before"

"OMGz0rz HALO RAWKZ0RZ!!!11ONEONE!!! IT ARE TEH BESTEST GAME EVAR!!11ONEONE!"

"Are there any mods for it?"

    "WHATS A M.. M.. M-O-D?"

"Right.... so the best game ever is limited to what the company has given you, virtually no customization to it..."

"SO WHATZ IT STILL RAWKZ0Rz EVERyTHING ELSE!!ONEONE1111!!!"

    "Have you ever played Half-Life?"

    "HALF WHA!?"

Computers are infinitely more useful than consoles, games are generally much better (with fighting games and driving games being the exception IMO), and mouse and keyboard pwnz all.

Same here! LOL Wow... Can't believe that. That's why I hate Console FPS, it's harder and you're limited to a certain amount of "buttons". And "Camera control" is limited too. LOL Have fun.

That's why I avoid *most* console FPS like the plague, but come on, admit it, have you ever played an RPG like FFVII on the keyboard and then and went and tried it on a PS2 controller? Much more comfortable and easier on the controller.

Uhh, Cpl. Davis, you do know that MicroSoft released a second gamepad called the S-type? it's about 1/3 the size of the default controller.

Yeah, most console FPS's suck, with Perfect Dark/GoldenEye/Halo/MOH:FL being the exception. Of course, I know my ps2 will play every game that is made for it, as opposed to my computer running (right now) about 1/100th of the games for PC.

I’ve played Halo quite a few times and it works well, sniping isn’t hard even at long distances. There’s no way I’d take it over a mouse and keyboard, but it works pretty well.
  • BurrBurr Join Date: 2002-11-19 Member: 9358Members
I got the s-type, it is better than the original (still bigger than the ps2, which after Iv'e been using an xbox controller feels like I could break it).

Halo has excellent control on a controller, even the bulky Xbox original. Of course, I will have to try it on the PC to compare the controls though (even though they probably changed it to make it easier to play on the PC, this is not just a direct port, they have made alot of changes to it).

Sure, flame me, I enjoy Halo on the xbox, sometimes its fun to have an 8 player game with all players in the same room watching the same screen (I don't go to LANs though, I want to, but I don't). Then when you kick everybodys reaer end you can collect the money you have been betting (yes, we bet on Halo games, its the only source of income I have)

Oh yea i know, but as i said, why shell out $300 bucks for the console unit then have to pay even more for the smaller s type controller, espescialy when soo many people bought x box for just halo lol basicaly making it a 350 dollar game.

There are some games that once you get used to them theres not problem.

A Good example is Metroid Prime and Timesplitters 2 for the GC

Timesplitters 2's control system is so slick and responsive that aiming isn't too much of a problem and Metroid Prime just manages to pull off being a FPS without being a FPS. Play it and go figure

Of course it is easier to aim with a mouse.

But IMO I enjoy more to play with a gamepad in a FPS than keyboard/mouse. Don't know why, but it is just that way.

X-Box is like £140-£160 in the UK right now. Microsoft is selling them at a loss, but one it can afford to make. They are just rying to push the others out of the market and then raise prices.

Still FPS and consols just dont go, a thumb just is not enough for movement, it deseves at least 2 fingures. AS for looking/aiming I give my whole hand. cant we go back to the days of duck hunt?

Personally, I enjoy the social aspects of Halo more than anything. IE: 16 of your closest friends crammed in a room with 4 TVs blasting the crap out of each other.

I've been dabating getting an Xbox, mainly because of Halo, but, since the PC version is coming out....

I'll probably pass. No thanks microsoft.

Halo is the only FPS console game I've played and liked.

Mind you, I've not played Timesplitters or Metroid, so I dunno about them. But I rented SoF for PS2 with my friend and we played one deathmatch. That's it, because the god damn game was so ugly and the controls were so bad we couldn't stand it. Then we jumped into the car and headed to the LAN cafe to play some CS with a bunch of guys.

Why? All, basicly, what that game is is a Fantasy keypad, there's no curvy movements and have to be done in a FF game. Another reason I hate them. But yeah, It'd be more customary to run most FPS'/RTS' with Mouse and Keyboards, most others I prefer a Controller.

FPS/Third Person Over The Shoulder games on consoles always have autoaim. Why? Because they don't have a facility with which you can simultaneously look around and fire, as you can with a kboard & mouse. Ergo concordantly the KFC Man rules the matrix...

I mean - a kboard & mouse just feels so much more <b>intuitive</b> for an FPS. And RTS games? Try telling me you can play Warcraft III with a gamepad... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

i completely disagree. controllers are so much easier to use when it comes to fps games. since the buttons are all layed out to suit a comfortable hand position, accessing them is much easier than using a bulky mouse and keyboard. not to mention response: the hands memorize the patterns and feel of the controller, allowing for quick moves and aiming.

i think all of you should get a pc controller to play NS on. all of you. then you can all play me. I'll be marine.
