Wow, incredible stuff guys. The talent of this mapping community never ceases to impress me.

I'll be announcing an upcoming map "contest" of sorts in the near future. There will be ton of new amazing textures from Squeal (ns2.wad) and there may be money involved. I'll keep you posted.

    Mr. Flayra...sir,

Is there any amount of begging and pleading that we could do to get you to release the ns2.wad before the release of 1.1? I mean it would be kinda nice to have a few custom maps ready for 1.1 looking fresh and new.

Please, Please, Please, *Grovel* *Grovel* *Grovel*.
Can ya huh? Can ya? Please, Please, Please. *Beg* *Beg* *Beg*

PS. The red x's are gone (page 14) I had an ISP problem and my links were broken. Its fixed now. SEE EDIT

[EDIT] NM there are still problems that I will have to fix later [/EDIT]

Having already seen the cool stuff the playtesting mappers have done with it, I can't wait to see what the rest of the community does with ns2.wad. It's an amazing, amazing, amazing (I can't stress this enough) wad, and Sqeual has really outdone himself this time.

But I'm personally a lot more curious about where that 'money' is going to come from.

All this amazing screenshots have made me take the leap and test my hand at mapping (finally). Being a total mapping n00b, I've heard that NS isn't the place to start, but seeing as it's the only HL mod I play anymore, I'm doing it anyhow. All you guys are just so great at this, any tips/pointers/things you wish you knew before you started? Hopefully, with a lot of time and patience, I'll be able to create something half as good as the stuff posted here.

Particularly one of the ones that makes a functioning ns box map for you. I don't know if you've ever mapped for anything else, but here's a personal pointer: Never Carve. Its not like Unreal. I had to completely redo the way I thought about level editing because of that. Secondly, download the "Everything you need" installer from somewhere in this forum. It makes the setup process a LOT less painful.

Here are some shots from my just-released map ns_karnak. There are lots more early shots at NSWorld. There's a download link there as well.

Hmm. I'll post some screens of my current project. Anyway, they are all either from inside VHE or compiled without RAD (Lightning) and VIS, just BSP and CSG. Just a few rooms have been made, and they aren't even done. One last thing... don't flame me just because I'm such a mapping newbie. Map name is ns_solar14, by the way.

EDIT: The picture doesn't seem to be working properly... cut & paste: http://www14.brinkster.com/xplosive/nomapp...14_screens3.jpg

EDIT 2: Brinkster obviously changed their rules which means you cannot access the Picture. I'll find a new host for the pic, hold on.

EDIT 3: You can access the image by entering No Mapping & Design Community , clicking "Projects" and then the "ns_solar14" link. Original URL is still here if Brinkster makes it work again.

That's right. I just said so, and I know it will look better with lightning. Don't feel like compiling it with lightning for a week or so (I'll get my a computer in a week)... takes a day to compile a map for me with lightning.

    Gah, more pics of ns_amalthea.

man.. i love those big yellow light/window type things.. it makes it seem like the room is far more open than it might really be. it's almost as if it's an outdoor man, yet still confined as it should be. amazing. i likes it much i does.

and i also find this contest interesting... i more-than likely won't win, but i can still have fun trying.

    some stuff i've been doing.

I don't have a coherent level theme yet, so I'm just putting together some random rooms to see if anything inspires me. Anywho, here's a cargo bay! In the center, if you squint, you can see tracks with cranes mounted on them for loading and unloading cargo. That window in the upper-left corner is the bay's control booth. The airlock's visible in the far back of the room. Behind that convenient metal outcropping is a resource node, and above the pipes, you can see a vent. (Don't worry, there's some clip brushes over the pipe so skulks can get up there without too much hassle. ) I'm thinking about having this room be a lot darker at the outset (particularly just above the loading rails, so skulks can hide,) and then having a cable that can be welded to restore power to the lights. What do you think?

you know, i've only had a sort-of-idea for a map once, and that failed horribly. i just sorta map every once ina while and only a room or so at a time. just an idea here and one there. sometimes i get inspired and make something worthwhile, but the w_polies are usually too high. ^_^
