Ok, the last request I made didnt go over so well but I'll try again. Here is an idea for a shotgun repalcement. In real life it's a semi-auto carbine with a 5 shot magazine. i figured it could just be modelled with a lot of kick (and it does kick pretty good) to replace pumping the shotgun. Of my Rugers it my favourite and if someone could do it it would be fantastic.

And in answer to mirage, as Spawn said, skinmeshing is where you map out the individual faces in a flat pattern, not unlike say a dressmaking pattern. This will give you the wireframe outlines representing the various shapes of the model.
Skinning is where you paint over these outlines with textures to make it look all shiny and gun-like.
A quick read of these tutorials might help explain the difference..look for the UVMapping( skinmeshing) and Skinning ones.

I've made a few models, i just load up the texture editor in MS3d, and place all the textures over the parts where i want, i've never meshed
is there any advantage?
Given the similarity of that and the M-14, would a simple hackjob be a better option? Shorten the M-14, adjust bits here and there?
I'm creating an M-14 now, but I'm having trouble with the slide and action- it would be much quicker if you took a model, converted it, adjusted the reference SMD, and skinned on NS arms. But it would still need animations...
a slow process probably, but creating a new gun from scratch would be even slower.
If you don't skinmesh, you'll have a very basic one chosen for you and oddities can arrise from it. Such as stretched textures. Read a tutorial if you're interested in finding out more.
