It's an interesting premise, an educational game aimed at a junior high grade level while being presented in a first person shooter format and being designed as a real game to compete in the mainstream market. hmmm, now that I think about it, smash tv would be pretty friggin cool. Especially if someone went back and ripped all the sound fx from the snes game.

How about a HL themed persistent world mmorpg/fps? Each server would host a different map and going to a new map (done by walking to the boundaries of the one your in) would switch you to whatever server had that map, no models or textures would have to be made because Valve has done all the work for you already, locations would be city 17 and the europe-ish surroundings, it would be a constant war between the aliens, the evil humans (we don't know why they are bad yet) and people working for the G-man with real consequenses for one side winning or losing, you would create a new character and get money with which you can buy weapons with or evolutions depending on your race, you would earn money/evolutions by getting kills, this is to prevent people from just switching to the winning side.
In other news: Thats a pretty good idea Legonairred! We can settle with Thievery UT until/if that gets made

Here comes the idea I promised. It's a slightly strange alternate history fantasy, so I may end up sounding like a total space cadet.
Oh, and this is single player stuff.
Okay, the idea is set in the late 1920's. The first World War ended rather differently. Instead of wasteful trench warfare that wasted the best of a generation the war was won by Germany because they followed the original Schlieffen plan and crushed the french defenses with a flank maneuver. However, the kaiser didn't manage to march to Paris, and so halted his legions drawing a new western border for Germany that split France in half. Because the war was over by 1915, Britain never got involved and Germany was able to fortify its eastern borders against the russian Czar. While the german/russian war still rages on in a stalemate situation in Poland, sucking Germany's precious resources, Britain has managed to rise as a dominant power. Its fleets are the largest in the world and it controls more colonies abroad than any other nation. Britain also still controls most of the known North America since George Washington's independence movement failed. However, the arrogance and dreams of power rampant among the british royalist elite have shaped out a nation not of kind-mannered gentlemen, but instead one that controls its colonial interests in America, Africa and India with an iron fist. (Be patient, I'll get to the game part soon.)
The player steps in as a raw recruit in the british army. He will first be sent into Ireland, where the events of 1916 are still fresh in the people's mind and a small armed sect is making terror attacks against town halls, police stations and other landmarks of british dominance. After some time he will be transfered to America, to fight the independence movement that is rising again.
If you've played flashpoint, you know the drill. The idea is to follow a single soldier's career while he rises in the ranks. The game's missions are mostly based outdoors and involve combat between infantry squads, machinegun nests, short range artillery and vehicles (bikes or WW1-style tanks). The game's real idea, though is to let the player make up his mind about what's right. In the beginning, he will only be told that he's fighting for his coutry against troublesome anarchists, but durring the game some events (like finding out that the measures taken against both the irish and american independence movements are way off-scale, including the complete obliteration of whole towns) will make him doubt if he's fighting on the right side. As the missions pile up, the genocidal war fought by Britain will become apparent to the player, and durring one mission he will be forced to decide whether he can approve the actions of his superiors. If he approves the game will continue as it did before, if he doesn't approve, joining the rebels will show him a completely new side of his homeland and its rulers.
If the above caught anyone's eye, I'm willing to post some mission ideas. I'm sure this post will mark me as a 100% nut with a penchant towards weird fantasies, but what the heck. I don't mind.

My mod ideas are probably the usual fare...
The Matrix- and Ghost in the Shell-like MODs... cyberpunk sci-fi with either cybernetic implants or virtual reality abilities (that could both be bought) allowing outlandish jumps 'n' stuff. Add to this: huge cities, civilians that run when they hear gunfire, stunt abilities, vehicles (like the Tachikomas in GitS!) and objectives. There is a Matrix-style MOD for HL1, but last time I checked it was buggy and lacked players.
One idea that just springed to my mind would be a sci-fi "take the enemy base"-type of mod with either both sides attacking simultaneously or the other side defending and the other side attacking. The game would have both FPS, tactical *and* space flight sim features, with the transition from flight to FPS being seamless. Four ship types, fighter, troop transport, carrier and space station, maybe with customizable weapons for the fighters. To gain victory, the attacking team would first have to get themselves inside an enemy space station using their fighter ships and then proceed to invade the base, perhaps perform some hack operation on the central computer or something to make the capture final. The defending team would first defend their station using their own fighters and the mannable turrets of the space station. FPS combat if the attacking team manages to get inside the base. Respawns would be limitless with some time limit like DoD, but each match has a time limit - when it ends, reinforcements arrive and the defending team wins.
There would be several ways to take the base - the team could take their time and try to destroy the base turrets and fighter bay to gain space superiority, and then take out the shield generator of the base to gain entry. Getting through airlock shields could be possible by ramming through with a troop transport or a fighter, but that might end in casualties or at least damage to the troops inside the ship. Damage to pilots/troops would be possible thru damage that the ship receives in spaceflight, also. Another possibility would be a decoy - the rest of the team does things the long way (taking out base defences etc.) and one or two lone fighters would try to sneak through unnoticed and ram themselves inside the base. This would be risky for the sneaky guys, though, say their ship and themselves too could get badly damaged from the hangar shields and then crashing inside the hangar. Should some of these sneaky pilots manage to survive the crash and kill potential guards in the hangar, they could then proceed inside the station through vents etc. and try to hack the forementioned computer.
The MechWarrior Mod (yes, copyrights, shut up you <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->):
You start out, choose your mech chassis, customize your loadout, then go down via dropship and lay down some smack. Deathmatch, team game, whatever, I don't care. I just want some frickin' big robots blasting the crap out of each other... and you gotta admit that would rock.
