Cronos, there's already a game with a similar premise in development. I was working on it for a while during the prototype stages, and it's pending budget approval right now. It's an interesting premise, an educational game aimed at a junior high grade level while being presented in a first person shooter format and being designed as a real game to compete in the mainstream market. Hey, they said they used shaders...so...wouldn't it be possible to make a cell shaded mod? I think there was some HL mod that tried pulling off this effect with sprite based characters (Buzzy Bots or something?).
Im just overjoyed at the new texture mapping, I can finally make bending pipes and proper curved hallways without having to manually align 20 textures! w00t

I'm just thinking of a mod where you go nuts with the gravity gun. Supply each player with one, and only one, then just pepper the level with cows/mattresses/fecal matter etc. Just anything that you can throw, then just proceed to try and throw anything at you oponent to kill them. Talk about abuse of physics, but it would be a heck of a lot of fun.
so far i am one of the modelers on the mod Zoids Chaotic Battle. it got started late so we are moving it to the half-life 2 engine. the game will be simalar to MechWarrior and Zoids Saga 2. here's the <a href='http://zcb.flagrun.net' target='_blank'>web site</a> but unfortatly its down however you can view the <a href='http://zcb.flagrun.net/phpBB2/index.php' target='_blank'>forems</a>. we are sitting on our hands till HL2 comes out. all i can do is make the basic models for the game with 5000 to 8000 poly limits. otherwise i don't even know what the texture requierments are.
I'd love to see an HL/HL2-based mod with the following, as I have yet to see a mod specifically like this, and it's the only one I'm likely to play long-term:
- Team-based (loosely, see below) 'aliens' vs. 'humans' (I know, I know, not original, but keep reading) - Each team lets you select combinations of attacks/abilites/defenses unique to that team (may be switched between respawns, and better/more abilities/weapons/defenses become available as your score increases) - Incredibly easy and intuitive (basically a no-brainer, ala HLDM) - Friendly-fire ALWAYS on - Friendly kill results in doubling your time until respawn and lowers your score, so there is incentive not to do it intentionally. - Default respawn time is 2 seconds - Spawnpoints spread about, not centralized for each team - Heavy weapons (things that can wipe out multiple opponents) become available according to team score (big cannons, airstrikes, plagues, etc.) - Game ends when other team is wiped out, variable time-limit is reached, or team score is reached - Non-stop action and mayhem fueled by pure FPS skill (again, like HLDM)

I thought up a mod idea a while ago incorperating stealth.
One team are guards, the other team are theives. About 30 loot items are scattered through the map. The theives must grab one piece of loot and take it back to the drop-off point, and they can only carry one at a time.
For the guards, guns are cheap, but equipment is expensive. For example, an Mp5 is easy to come by, but a laser alarm or a pair of night vision goggles would be much harder to come by.
The theives, on the other hand, only have access to 2 weapons, a knife, and a suppressed pistol. Since all of the guard wear kevlar, it's very hard to kill a grard in this fashon, sneaking up behind them and sliting their throat is much more efficient.
People respawn freely, out of combat. There is a small cash deduction for respawning.
When a piece of loot is grabbed, it is taken off the list of available objects. When all pieces have been touched and "resolved", the round is over, everyone respawns, and everyone gets a chance to buy new gear. A guard may shoot and kill any theives, and when they do, any loot they carry is dropped. If picked up by the guard, it is taken out of play. ( This section still needs work.)
Weapons will work on a 5 slot configuration.
1- Large/Primary weapon Possible weapons include-
M4 Carbine Mp5 Sub-gun Shotgun
Possible Gear for this slot includes:
Repelling gear Grappling hook(extra add-on to the repelling gear. The gear lets you go down, the hook lets you throw it then go up) Active camoflauge netting (Hides player a'la HALO) Crossbow (for longer grappling hook throws)
Other gear includes, for other weapon slots-
Stun Rifle(apprehend the theives. Longer respawn time, $ bonus) Night Vision Glass cutters Lockpicks Disposable welding torch (cutting vauts/thin metal walls) Heat vision (see through walls, limited range)
uhh... haven't thought up anything else yet. I'll probably never make it, but I'd love playing something like this.

I do have a single player idea that maybe could be pulled off with the HL2 engine. It is somewhat bizarre, though, so I might have to refine it before I spill it out. If anyone here has read the graphic novel Heart of Empire by Bryan Talbot, well, I got the idea from there.

A starcraft mod really would be cool. Somewhat like NS with commanders to build crap for all 4 races. Hell just Terran and Zerg would be cool, I can imagine being the gunner in a siege tank and taking down Ultralisks as they tried to take my comms expansion. *drools* Terrans would have lots of drivable vehicles and would be fairly weak alone and on foot, where as Zerg would have no vehicles but could 'evolve' into greater creatures with their share of resources. *NS2 anyone <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ?* Protoss would have a hard time expanding and it would cost their comm a massive amount of resources just to respawn 1 ordinary Zealot. Homoludens from the 3DR forums posted an interesting idea for a mod. It would be based on Night of the Living Dead (or some old movie <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) and would focus entirely on the pyshics of the source engine. The player(s) would be alone and without any weapons and would have to set traps and barricades against hordes of zombies and other nastys. And I am sure a creative modder would find a way to put vehicles in some way. Just imagine it as he put it "no rocket launchers, no nades. Just a beautiful engine with amazing physics that allow you use anything as a makeshift weapon, construct booby traps into which you can lure several zombies, even punch and kick your way out of danger. With that level of AI, you can even command your fellow NPCs to help you reinforce your surroundings with lumber, push furniture to barricade doors, etc." He also mentioned the NPCs having special skills and such but I think this would be cooler as a multi-player game (well everythings cooler multi <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ) For instance, lets say you would have to surive for a certain amount of time against the zombies, then you would have to fight/trick/sneak your way to a vehicle of some sort. From their you would possibly be given a few weapons and would have to escape the town.
