Bought Enter The Matrix

Returning it tomorrow
Well, after I saw Reloaded I immediately went from the cinema to Electronics Boutique and bought Enter The Matrix for PC.
I regret ever purchasing this piece of programming tripe.
Let me list off all that is wrong with this game
- At 4.3Gb too install I was expecting MGS2 style graphics, how wrong I was. All the levels are nothing but bland corridor after corridor with uninspired architecture.
- The 2 main characters run like Forrest Gump
- Niobe is the best driver in all of the Matrix (According to the manual), apparently she's never heard of the term 'brake' as the AI constantly decided to ram itself at high speeds into all of the buildings along our escape route. The cops weren't much better either
- Ghost is a practiced master of guns (Also according to the manual), however he can't hit jack jimmeny crap.
- I run into a room with about 4 armed guards all shooting at me. I wall run past 3 of them and come to the last guy. I enter hand to hand combat, well guess what. The armed guards aren't shooting anymore. Guess the honour system is apparently pretty high among these guys.
- According to all the hype if I want to get the full story of Reloaded I'm meant to play through this entire game. Urgh, not bloody likely. I'll make my own conclusions thank you very much.
- Guns don't shoot in the direction they are pointed. Guards standing side on aiming forward have magical bullets that curve straight at me!
Worst. Game. Ever.
I truly pity the console gamers who will be without a patch for this game.
Who cares, I'm returning it tomorrow for the Tenchi Muyo OVA Box set.

nubcaek!
i love etm!
sure the gfx aren't earthshattering, and sure the ai isn't the best around
but damn it is FUN.
especially when you go kungfu'ing
also, the pc version > u.
The only thing that makes me sad is that Shiny made it, and they're known for making GOOD games. like the MDK series. Can't wait on MDK4...
I have dubbed ETM's fighting style 'bland-fu' After 10 minutes you've seen every single fighting move in the game.
And the moves don't even match up properly to where they are hitting.....
They rushed this game out to meet the Reloaded release date and it shows.
HO HO HO HO HO HO
Thanks, you just made my day.

The graphics are probably still junk despite the >4 gigs because the 1 hour of full motion video probably takes plenty of space, and consoles don't need particularly good textures (a TV's resolution is roughly equivalent to a computer running 640x480)
As for the rest, thanks for warning me. I was about to buy it today or tomorrow, now I'll wait 'till I play a demo or see it rented at a friend's house.
So not having top of the line graphics makes it a bad game? Hmm... I guess you had better stop playing NS then. Also in "Reloaded" how many of the fight scenes were in small corridors or small rooms? Hmm..Let me think, ALMOST ALL OF THEM! "Uninspired architecture" This is another downer for you? Guess what, that’s what most building look like.

And that’s bad? If you remember from the movie Forest could run really well.

Did you even see Reloaded? Trinity was smashing into things all the time, as were the cops. So you think is would be funnier if Niobi obeyed all the traffic laws, 30 miles an hour, stop at red light, stop for pedestrians, Hmm..Sounds fun.

Maybe its because the game wasn’t centered around gun combat. Just think, how many time did Neo kill somebody with a gun? NEVER! Enter the Matrix is about kung-foo, not guns.

So if you were one of the guards you would have shot her? Even if you might hit your partner? Remember she is moving twice as fast as you but you can’t shoot because you might hit another cop.

That's really sad that you cant finish a game just because it has some faults, better just give up on gaming all together then.

Let me guess, your moving, they are standing still, movement effects bullets, the game is about kung-foo, the player need's some way of dieing. Wait! What if the cop's shot like you! Then you could beet the game without ever dying!! Cool!

The size comes from sound folder which is about 1.5Gb
The movie folder is about 350Mb (It's all DivX encoded)

That makes sense. I remember reading GameSpy's recent article regarding Halo 1 for the PC. Apparently Halo for the XBox had support for 5.1 surround sound, and approximately half of the DVD was audio (music and sound effects).
Still no excuse for a junk game, though. I'll have to try it and see what I think about it.
Might have to rent it for my GameCube then...
Me2.
This was such a disappointment on so many levels. Mainly for the reasons stated above.
Usually i'm not quite so picky about the aesthetics as long as the game has a good storyline and so on, but not one thing in this game actually wanted to make me waste any of my time on it. The graphics are dated, but i can usually live with that, but usually that's the only redeeming feature for some games. The animation of the characters / NPCs was awful, and i mean absolutely awful, the running animation most of all, which usually had me laughing my arse off at it. The fighting is boring, too easy and no fun whatsoever. Also realism was obviously not considered. I mean, the security guards at the start must be so fast, i could have sworn they were lying on the floor one second, and the next i was disarming their gun. Also, having only played this on console (PS2), the control system was also disgustingly bad. Instead of having one stick for movement and another for looking around, they stupidly put the strafe buttons on L2 and R2, which was a total inconvenience to use, i never bothered. It's not like i actually needed to strafe at all either though.
Finally, the story. I didn't play this long enough to get "into" it properly, i will admit that, but it was hardly compelling. The first mission to pick up a parcel only reminded me of Postal 2, but at least you could decapitate people and urinate on their flaming bodies in that game.
All in all, this is a typical movie tie-in game. Most other movie tie-in's have been mediocre games, and this is absolutely no exception.
I feel sorry for anyone that's actually wasted their money on this sub-standard crap.
To get back on-topic: how long of a game is Enter the Matrix, and how re-playable?
Although, Splinter Cell rubs me up the wrong way a bit. It's got a +very+ nice engine, and cool moves, but being a Metal Gear Solid fan, i prefer the simplicity of the MGS games to Splinter Cell. In all rights it is quite a cool game, and still quite fun to play, but i would recommend (if you don't have it already) getting MGS2 instead, the storyline is amazing and overall it's a much more fun game to play.
To be honest, i don't think there's anyone who will actually make it through this game to tell you. But personally i only reckon about 8-10 hours worth of gameplay at the most.
And replayability? Other than trying it with the other character, none really. It's bland, boring and very uninteresting in general.
How is that an improvement?
If you like the series then you'd get the DVDs
Granted some parts of Tenchi Muyo made we want to gauge out my eyes as well as going from a nice star wars rip off to Tenchi in a rather compromising situation (I will not take this any further just in case it incriminates me in anyway)
It wasn't bad. But nothing compared to NGE or CB
and while I agree that the graphics aren't anything special
I do feel that the game is great fun.
You mentioned that the AI on the driver was crap as she kept
hitting walls.... well it wouldn't really be any fun if she drove
perfectly through the stage, carefully avoiding obsticales
and indicating as she went round corners.
But i can't really comment on the rest as i've only had the game
6 hours or so (i've been out all day and only managed to
get in an hour of game time.)
When i complete it i might trade it in for another title, depending
on any extra features I unlock/cheats/etc.
How is that an improvement?

Tenchi Muyo is a cult classic in anime land.
I know tons of guys who hate it, but I always enjoyed it.
Now when I say crashing into walls, this isn't about "she takes the corner too hard and slams into a wall but never mind we'll beat those cops!" it's "dum de dum. Oh I was meant to turn there? Too bad then! We just plowed head on into a building! Silly me! Excuse me while I reverse!"
She's running from the cops, of course she's going to drive recklessly and maybe hit a lightpole or two knocking it over, but she just plows HEAD FIRST into buildings!
I guess I will use that cash to buy Deus Ex 2, since thats the only game coming out soon that looks worth $50.
The saddest part is the the game went gold about 2 or 3 months ago too. So it was just sitting around in a production plant somewhere when it could have been improved on. Oh but I guess they had to make eleventy billion copies because everyone on earth would want this game, right? heh.
Most cross-genre ports usually are. Like Game -> Movie (Tomb Raider one and two[Yes Two they are that stupid]) Movie -> Book (Men In Black) ETC... However the book -> movie transition has enjoyed some success, ALA LOTR, Dune and Frankenstein.
:-D
--Scythe--
Anyway patch fixed some gameplay issues so if you got it on PC go patch it, if not you're screwed
I'm satisfied with the game been kicking **** and taking names all day, agents are really fun to fight (which is where you see most of the moves and not on some stupid security guard).
Also it sounds like none of you even got half way through the game if you're knocking the story line, cause theres a bunch of insights into the movie.
Edit: umm on the driving part I didn't hit any buildings....maybe your just not good at driving?
I bought it yesterday but it crashes at the beginning with a "DEVICE NOT CREATED 2" error message
to those who want to return the game : could you send the game to me instead (to see if it works) ?
