<div class="IPBDescription">Cs-like global score keepers...</div>i don't know if this idea has come already up with, maybe i even started the other topic about this, but forgot it (So many ideas i have, i sometimes forget my old ones)..

you know in CS some systems like darkseed or www.zkillz.com that store your stats on their servers... this is good, but you have to play only on their servers to have your score checked.. maybe NS could have some similar program included, with a website to it, that stores ALL the stats from all the players...when you start a server online, the stats played are automatically stored in this website.. they could be wonid-dependable, but maybe you could register at the website, getting a code (+password), then entering this code (+password) in the player setup menu, then when you join a server this stores you scores.. this would stop AFK-ing (and people more going into spec mode, or maybe an AFK-room included in CS, where you can go into when you go to the readyroom...) and it would support a global marine-ranking system, when you are in the top 1000 players you are a admiral and have an admiral shoulderpad ingame.

This system would encourage fragfests, but i don't think it has such a great invluence i.e. the scores would not matter that much.. (although others might not think so, its just my idea)

-

btw, when i want to change team, how do i go to the readyroom? can i enter a button in a menu or something, or does a map has to have something like ns_next where you have 'exitrooms' (which i don't like... im in a firefight, i strafe and shoot, not watching where i go, and suddenly im in the readyroom, losing my armor and weapons and stuff...)

I doubt it for marines at least it's about teamwork, not how many aliens you can kill.  But for aliens...hm....

i think its a great idea about ranks, something that takes a track of how many you`v killed, and how many times you`v died, something like that would work great as a clan-resumè.

of course, you decide (before game) wheter you want them to track your stats, or not.

but if this would destroy everything called teamwork (and only be a bunch of marines screaming: "hey ####head! that was my guy, i shot 95 out of him, u son of a bith!"

there could be a feature, where the commander can give the marines point for what they do/dont do.
and on there stat database, there would f. exs. be a separat page for jimmy the marine, and jimmy the alien.

or, the marines could record parts of there playing, and it would show on the command screen top-right or something.
like they have to hold down a button to record.

    Exit rooms have been removed.

As for the 'global stats' idea... It's something Flayra wants very very much. In fact, there has been talk about ranking players according to a global stats system, giving those players in-game tags/patches on their arms/stuff like that. However, I don't think that the server/bandwidth/success exists for the mod as yet. Possibly a later release.

As for commanders giving points... that's too easy to llama. That won't go in.

I think there REALLY should be a ranking system. Maybe not even public, but just so the players ingame have a shoulderpad depending on how how high on list they are (but not showing there score to them. In the menu, you could even see your own status after your name, or before it an image... but, as you said there might not be a good enough server, although the skillz system has about 61 servers... i do think NS is good, but in beta 1 i don't think theyll reach the 61 servers soon, although it is so good it just might... (although i don't think this would make beta 1)

So I think it is possible to track all player stats in the first beta of NS, maybe after that the scoring system will be let go of, or more websites will support this. Also, only tracking the kills, not deaths and stuff, but never showing them to anyone is not as much information as the zkillz system has. So i think it IS possible, but have to wait to see it happen

and btw? how will a player be able to get back in the readyroom? don't say press a button because i hate to press my readyroom button exidently. More like in the player menu...

Maybe you won't be able to switch teams in the actual game, but when you die you're transfered automaticly to the readyroom and there you're able to change team, i'm just guessing here.

I seriously hope Flayra considers all aspects of "stats" very carefully ...

Stats in my opinion lead to nothing but DM style tactics and personal saftey ...

altough for aliens it may be acceptable, however this may lead to everyone wanting to play as the aliens, well, at least the majority.

Yep, stats are something to be very carefully considered.  It's a lot of work technically, but it also changes the entire character of the game.  Needless to say, we would have to think very carefully about adding stats, especially due to the socialist nature of the marines. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Ahem. Let's try to avoid referring to Marines as socialists, for my sake. Chester Puller would be be spinning in his grave right now if he heard that.

Not that it's any solution to NS stats, but in Sven Co-Op, your stats are dependant on how many times you hit an enemy instead of how many kills you get. Which I was very grateful for, because that crap is -always- happening to me.

still, that promotes shooting the enemy ... and not working as a team.

I brought up a 'score according to percentage' idea where everyone's score was 1.00 for a full kill, 0.50 for half of one, and so on, back in the old forums. (<a href="http://66.70.175.88/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.cgi?action=Read&BID=19&TID=291&P=3&SID=30829#ID47" target="_blank">Link</a>)

The idea was warmly recieved by a lot of people, but in the end it was decided that giving the marines -any- score based on kills would severely hurt the teamplay aspect. Ergo, the marines would probably be ranked according to wins vs. losses, though that has the potential of making every marine drop out of the game nearly simultaneously if they believe they're about to lose.
  • GreedoGreedo Bounty Hunter Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 37Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Basically, the only kind of global stat that would discourage DM and encourage Teamplay would be a win-loss record.  This stat should simply be the most important, but not the only one.  Rank people by the number of times they've been on the winning team, with some kind of dependence on the percentage of wins, too.  But then, you should also include the number of people in the game in the calculations, so people [edit because you can't say #####]don't repeatedly play[/edit] on 1v1 servers.  I actually can't even think of another stat worth coding into some kind of ladder.
  • pielemuispielemuis Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 72Members, NS1 Playtester
Anywayz the stats should work with a user name and a pass, for like in my case i use a copy of friends cd, although i have my own cd and key, and i always use his key, he doesn't have internet anyway and i bought my own cd after i used his, so i just kinda continue using it till some day i run out of luck and he has himself an internetconnection and i get this wierd phrase cd-key already in use, then i just switch key,bla what am i rambling about?
oh yeah so just use nick and pass that would be great!
  • hArkhArk Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 92Members
Err.. Amount of shots hits would be useful with kills and you do have to kill the enemy to survive with average of mins per kill
Amount of deaths average survival rate with min and max
    Time connected to server

All that should give people a fair idea if they are a solo killer or team player by kills and hit point’svs kills ratios
  • ScytheScythe Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 46NS1 Playtester, Forum Moderators, Constellation, Reinforced - Silver
Having a stats database based on kills only would suck beyond my belief. It should also include buildings built, games played in which thier side won and amount of friendly fire and other such stuff.

Just make stats like they do in UT, people killed, deaths, effciency, etc. i don't care about stats actually, it's anice feature but if it's not in I won't shed a tear.

how about only trust worthy servers (things like homelan and such) have this feature so some llama doesnt start a new game with his buddy locked and rais his score, and marines get points for wins while aliens get points for frags, but the frag goes to any alien that damaged the target for at least 20% of his health. Since this is only on trust worthy servers there wouldnt be any BS going on. well there goes my 1.999999 cents.

Check out www.csports.net. It's really surprising what stuff they all keep track of and I have absolutely no idea how they do it.
They even recorded scores from a listenserver hosted by myself.
They keep track of all scores scored in any HL, Quake, RtCW and other games and game MODs without any plug in or so. Only bad thing is that their ladder is only based on play time and frags, not on the relation of frags vs deaths.
  • pielemuispielemuis Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 72Members, NS1 Playtester
I think I now that site, but it's only based on your nick you used in-game i thought, i'm sure i have seen several nicks of mine in that list, and yes they were mine cuz it said wich server you last played on.

The way they keep track is that your server is 'announced' over the network of servers (usually on WON.net's server or whatever thing you're connecting through) and the moment it is, they start tracking ya. Cool, huh?

I think this makes the most sense. Also, <a href="http://www.persistengine.com" target="_blank">http://www.persistengine.com</a> would work quite well for this kind of thing...

Ok guys, you worry too much!!!  the game is not built yet there for we shouldn't worry about stats.  No one knows how the game is gono be played on massive bases, like CS is.  I think that we should have stats but not involve kills and deaths. As i hear this games is more about tactics and team work, so the stats should be bases on tactics and teamwork. But like i said it's too early to worry about it right now.  It's a complicated process to create a new statistics system, but for a unique game you need unique stats!!!!!  <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
