Evil Comm Or Bad Aliens?

<div class="IPBDescription">dr.d made it realy boring</div> MAn I wish I knew the server name, but it had healing armories, I was watching dr.d COMM and lauging my arse off. The time limit is 30 minutes per map on that server. dr.d went comm every single time, he dropped 1 inf portal, the armory, and upgraded it right away. We were on Eclipse, and I swear the games never lasted more than 4 minutes. we just waltz into the hive with HMGs after taking a few random nodes, and blamo.. dead hive. I thought it was great the first few times.. but then it got soooo boring.. same thing over and over. I think because it was a large server xx/24 the resource ticks made it easier to do that.. but no matter what the aliesn did, we still won, they even managed to make the WHOLE alien team go gorge.. butr they didnt drop any Ds so the had no CARA and got raped...

    Greypaws, there's only one counter to the hmg rush. It's called ambush. Very expensive [edit]for the marines[/edit], if it works, the trick is there are very few patient players.

    It wasn't that it was bad aliens, there were just too many decent marines vs. aliens. In large games that respawn queue before the aliens get their second hive up really hurts.

    I was in that same game last night! The server was Scott's house of Alien Rampage. The problem was that on eclipse it is almost impossible to stop a good hmg rush. We actually did
    have cara( I know, I built the D towers =) but there are not enough places to ambush the
    HMG wielders on the way to hive. We actually did take their rush down a couple times at the hive, but by that point the hive is so weakened that a simple LMG rush will polish it off. Plus the marines were smart last night. They stuck together. Unless the skulks are very tricky there is almost no way for hive 1 aliens to stop the HMG rush.

    That was probably on the Scott's House of Alien Rampage server. I have to admit that it wasn't really a fun way to play for either the marines or the aliens. The aliens have very little chance even if they find some place to camp. HMG's even without upgrades versus aliens with cara will just rip them apart, they might get the guy out in front but the combined power of 5-6 hmgs will destroy all of them. Maybe something like a combined attack from front and back and maybe like one skulk hiding off to the side but good luck finding a place where that can work.

    Thnx! prospero, yeah it was Scotts House, I saw some of those rushes you managed to stop, by the time you killed the last HMGer dr.d dropped 3 more HMGs at spawn. I just never realized just how bad the HMG rush was. I'm used to playing in small servers xx/12 or xx/14 and the res gain for marines is WAY slower so HMGs take longer, and losing 3 guys actually hurts.

    It's a problem with Eclipse. There are ambush points, but a decent team can get from place to place largely avoiding them, so why would they go there? All the main routes are nice & safe. Top this with a rush proof spawn, and it's HMGtastic.

    Most of the other maps are fairly resistant to this, so you don't get it that often. I'm not saying it can't, but it's much more difficult.

    Uhm yeah the problem was that there were too many good people stacking up marine team so there werent any decent skulks to ambush the marines. If alien team had some good players they couldve dropped down on hmg marines and kill them 1 by 1

    Are you talking about vadakill.com? If sp, that is the BEST FRICKIN SERVER EVER. Except for mp_consistency 1 but... Besides, healing armories are useful, it's too much of a pain in the butt to constantly drop medpacks...

    i was there, and i was the lead guy like everytime. i think we did it more than on eclipse. Plus i comm'd one of those hmg rushes too on tanith i think it was. The thing is if you listen for the skulks before you see them, it's pretty hard to setup and ambush.

    But ya the alieans got owned so hard that night, i can see why it sucked for the aliean team.

    oh and it was the {YcSp} Server.

    On such a large server you will soon have resources to rush again, so there's basically no point. Can probably afford several HMG rushes before the skulks get lvl3 carapace. Actually, a semi-decent marine team basically have to *try* and lose to lose on such a bug server. The resource system is flawed, simple as that.

    Yeah he did it for two rounds on the next map and I left... the aliens were so demorilized by then they didnt even try, the just goofed off untill the rush came, dr.d told me he supposedly did a 2 hive lock down just to be funny right before he quit

    and no it was Scotts House of Alien Rampage for sure.. I checked with him later on

    The only way really to stop it is it to prevent it happening in the first place. I've seen some success in repeated rushes by skulks to take out the marine base RT, over and over again, to prevent a decent res flow at the start of the game.

    Essentially though its very difficult to stop on eclipse depending on which hive you've got.

    For the poster, while their gone, try killing off their resource node and armory in base :-p (they'll probably just build another cc somewhere if needed.

    No, this was Scott's House. I was there too. The plugins didn't really affect the game - having the armory spitting health back at home doesn't make an HMG rush any more or less effective. And lerklift doesn't help the aliens much if the HMGs come out before anyone can afford to go lerk.

    It was basically a combination of repeated team stacking (YcSp people, I'm looking at you... for SHAME) and it being a large server (still looking at you, YcSp). Even with the entire team ambushing the HMG crews, the comm was still able to keep a steady flow of HMGs and healthspam going. Not to mention that even if the entire alien team were able to somehow hold the HMGs at bay, that means the marines get ownership of the rest of the map - and if 1 RT means HMGs for everyone on the team, imagine what 2 RTs means!
