A) Fork out £20 extra in 3 months, as they release an 'expansion pack'

*Expansion Pack : Noun. A group of patches, generally which should have been released free as they would comprise intelligent beta testing anyway, compiled onto a CD & released with a rehash campaign & several units that were orignally phased out for a reason

    RTS = Real Time Strategy

Flayra stated numerous time that "NS will always be free", but nobody here will be angry at you if you send him the dough anyway..

Dont take this too harshly, but you were not force to pay money to buy an expansion. So no use comparing it to that, and also, NS is in a totally different Ocean, let alone a different boat than any other current RTS.

By the way, I'm currently playing through the Brood War campaigns again. Personally, I'll take a Blizzard expansion pack over 90% of the full price games out there.

Don't get me wrong, Blizzard makes quality products, but the whole wc3 thing left a bad taste in my mouth. The way it went from a massive game to 3 races and an expansion pack.

What's wrong with earning your money?

(By charging for updates? Well, if you ask me, if you BUY an update you must be really stupid.
That makes me stupid, because I am going to by the WC3 addon.)

no expansion pack is worse than 'the Sims' line of trash. Basically you pay £40 for the same game every time, but with a new 'feature'

    What now ?

Well you gotta admire their ability to stay on the top ten list of sold PC games with at least one title at all times for several years selling packeted junk

Did I? I never had a Pokemon one....

On the slightly serious slant of this thread, I generally find expansions to be quite bad, for the above reasons. And they do 'force' you to buy it, if you play any multiplayer, (not just Bliz) because have you (for example)

Tried to find a decent game of Shogun with people who don't use Mongol Invasion? It just doesn't happen.

Sorry, but I'm not really following you here. You've never paid for NS, so why would you have to pay for "updates".

Hell, NS is and expansion pack, for Half Life. Sure you can donate to the team, but afaik there are no plans to make it a pay game.

Every expansion I have buyed before was very satisfying (especially multiplayer), like W2: beyond the darkportal, SC: broodwar, D2: LOD and a few others i forgot, so why would this addon be a waste of ur cash?

War2: BTDP was a horrific expansion multiplayer-wise solely because it contained that thrice damned friends.pud which greatly popularized money maps. =[

its still not even balanced ......and thats sad......we are talking about blizzard which is the best RTS maker balance wise imo (SC:BW was practically perfect)

Heh, I've played RTS's for ages and I didn't get it. I thought it was RTs (Resource Towers) and I was like "WTH? What does this have to do with expansion packs". Heh, RTS should be all in caps IMO, never would have thought of it before, but now with NS... gah.

btw, nothing wrong with expansion packs. SC:BW has already been brought up and that is posibly the best expansion pack ever. I'd also bring AoK:TC to the table. If ever there was a good expansion pack, it was this one.

Also, you guys are forgetting that these developers and publishers, are companies. You're not going to get free updates forever ya'know. Buying that expansion secures an extra year or so of updates. Otherwise the developer would just drop the damn thing. It's capitolist, and it aint nice, but that's the way it works. People need to eat, and developers are people too. So there.
