<ul> <li>The top freighter (Humpback?) maxes out at lvl 7 power ratings, which dooms it to dismal life expectancy even with escorts against seasoned players <li>The various ships retain the abilities they have as encountered in the linear SP game, meaning only the one or two highest ships are competitive once maxed out <li>"Maxing out" can be done without cheating in about three hours. I really like the look and feel of the game and would like nothing better than to dream of setting up a little universe, modelling some stations and equipment, doing some custom rules, etc. But from what I've read so far (mostly on Lancer's Reactor) it appears they have no plans to release an editor, any of the source, support Linux, etc. So that pretty much leaves us with with what we've got. I think as familiarity spreads the game will be flooded with players who use the method mentioned to max out within hours, and then spar with the top two ships, simply for sport, because there is nothing remaining to even spend the money on.
Gah! How can this not be predicted? This reeks of some marketing person at M$ forcefully pulling the plug for whatever reason, and being unable to see the potential. It's not like Valve is suffering from the modding of Half-Life- you'd think that having your product continue to be in use five years later, even if heavily pirated, would be better than being forgotten completely in six months.

And yeah, I've maxed out ... twice, I think. Once legit, the second time with the three-hour method (though not three hours straight, as I got bored from time to time.)
At higher-levels, everything starts to get really boring, and at lower levels you don't feel like you can do anything. I really want to enjoy Freelancer more, but there's nothing else to it. :{
I shocked my friends recently when I told them I just <i>bought</i> a game. I'm sure I've mentioned here before that I'm not much of a gamer, and the only game I've ever really bought before this was a used copy of HalfLife so I could play NS.
Just bought Freelancer a few hours ago through an eBay auction (<i>using the 'buy now' feature</i>) for a mere $15.99US (<i>about $25 CDN</i>). That (obviously) beats the local retail price of nearly $60 CDN. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
only thing it asks for is the CD, which is easy enough to get by. Theres no cd-keys I've ever inputed (minus that increadibly long MP key because I got a new hdd ..).
There may be, however, some other kind of protection running behind the scenes ..
Do you mean the copy of Freelancer? I didn't get it yet (probably Monday), but it's a new copy and has never been opened.
If you mean the used Half-Life game I bought - it works great. Bought it from a friend of mine who moved on to newer and more sytem-intensive games. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
FreeLancer Multiplayer is one of those things that you *gotta* do with people you know. When I upgrade my rig and install/buy FreeLancer, I plan on chasin down MonsE or Silver and...serve as a cargo pilot.
*sidenote* I love any games that are based in space and have true space physics (i.e. you can turn really easy, you can pull off 10G turns etc etc). FreeLancer is up on my list.
And whoever said M$ pushed this game out for money...it's been in development since the publishing of StarLancer. Three years in the making. I think it's pretty damn well polished.
And you can find over 30 places to trade ALONE in the Manhattan system. Norfolk Shipyard, Trenton Outpost, Manhattan, West Point, those are just the few that I bothered. Add on the California system, planet Maine and others and you probably end up with some 200 odd trading places.
Ub3r Pirate fun for me. It's hard to start doing, to get in favor with all the criminals, but you can start smuggling drugs for 90000 each way from the california system to the New york system. o.O

No, its 1000M, which I have no idea what it is, K is standard for thousand as we all know. That's probably Kilo-Kilometers. Either that or in thousands of miles.
I can't decide whether I want to buy it or not. I'd love to get on and play on blueharvest with everyone, but I'm not sure whether I should get Splinter Cell instead. They both look soooo cool, but SC has much better written SP (I love a good SP game MUCH better than a good multiplayer game).
And yeah, I did shuttle oxygen between Manhatten and Newport. I'm a silly man. It was either that or water between Manhatten and Pittsburg.
Splinter Cell is cool for true SP. Have you played Demo #2? I got it on my cuz's comp, snuck up behind the guys in the computer room at the top of the police station... Executioner style to the back of the head while the poor saps were working.
[edit] It's probably KL (Kilo Light S). 1 Light second = roughly 300,000 miles or so. It's kinda good they don't tell you what K means because then some uber-fan boy won't be able to fly around and say "oh, they mis-measured the distance between planet x and planet y by 20k Kilometers
Man, the SP on this game is 100 times better than the mp on it, untill a good mod comes out. It is just boring, after you get the eagle, or titan there is basically no point in playing...
Hmm... you could do it in a dragon, hoping that they dont whack you with thier LVL 10 armaments. Or dive bomb them with torpedos, thats a lot of fun <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
