    And I suppose Half-Life was a ripoff of Aliens as well, eh? After all it <i>did</i> feature Marines fighting against Aliens... and it had guns...

    NS is not a ripoff of any game.. all there is to it. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    Thanx for the physics lesson, coil. I wish they taught that in my highschool classes. But nooooo... we had to learn about... little balls flying through the air. : )

    Heh... when I learned ballistics in high school, we used cannons, guns, and spitballs as our mathematical models.

    When we did pendulums, it was Tarzan on a vine.  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    don't be a cretin, this mod does heavily reasemble the "alien" movies.  Technically, this mod is a "rip off" of the movie aliens, along with starcraft, predator.. etc...
    but i wasn't calling it that, I agree with coil on that matter  <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> ;however, I just thought that  NS is  *inspired by* these games and there is definate similarities to the alien movies, and saying there isn't a similarity is wrong.

    Hehe, well... I still wouldn't call it a technical ripoff. Good or not.

    Whatever, though. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    I think the problem is your choice of words, Digz. Saying 'ripoff' is a pretty harsh pejorative. Saying 'inspired by' gets your point across without sounding like you're accusing people of theft and unoriginality.

    So, yes. Inspired by a lot of things. No one describes Star Wars as a rip-off of 1930's pirate/flying ace serial movies, Jedi Knights as a rip-off of the Chinese Shaolin monks who invented Karate, or Alien as a ripoff of the Jason movies (umm, unkillable super predator that can't be understood and hunts down youngsters in a secluded area one by one? Puuuhhh-lease! ).

    Any single movie, book, or game you name, I can point out it's derivations. It's a pointless excercise, really.

Shouldn't they jerk backwards onto the marine's shoulder? Or is the upwards movement the result of some sort of recoil suppression/redirection mechanism? I think the recoil on the LMG should be equivalent to that of the pulse rifle in AvP2, meaning you could spit out a stream of lead and patter a 20cm diameter circle in a wall 20 metres away. I realise that this is not really recoil, but I think it would be simpler if "recoil" was simulated with a decrease in accuracy.

    Not to mention, that if you're not building on top of previous works, you're not innovating.  Period.
