well, I don't. I think it's more likely that it'll be comprised of *former* CS players. I'm seeing a lot of converts over in my neck of the woods.

Back in the day CS had a great community. Hopefully the type of atmosphere and play NS is shooting for will deter jerks as the NS community grows.
I think the "up+down buttons w/ hand" icon marks something that you can interact with -- in this case, its overtop a button. So, you don't have to wonder "Is that just a random brush, or is it a button?" [EDIT: I also think you can turn it off once you're familiar with the maps/think its annoying. Might also show up for breakables and doors? (I hope not to much the breakables, as I was hoping to get some windows that only shatter where you shoot, which would require multiple breakables... maybe a flag for mappers is in order to turn it off in some cases)]
The marine in the circle just standing there is the regular waypoint, and the icon on the far left of the last shot appears to be a "hive" icon.
I really love the new icons/HUD, major props to Relic. And more props to Beaner, Cory, and Mojo for blinky (level 4)!Keep the shots coming, MonsE
[EDIT: Not all CS players are bad. I prefer a smaller, closer community, but if there are lots of people, at least you dont have to worry about not having anyone at all to play with!]
ok, I admit that was a gross over-generalization. Sorry. But hey, not all CS players are bad... and even the best mods have their scum. Let's face it, if you build it they will scum. It's inevitable. But, we'll just get good enough to blast them anyways
tRunKs aint bad at all, i love CS and always will most likely. It got me goin with skinning and photoshop, and i'm a pretty decent player now (no cheats). Managed to get to #2 spot (hopefully #1 in the near future) on the IGL ladder, with Xtreme Measures. Were hoping to join CAL soon also.
I must admit that most big mods will be exposed to cheats . There isn't really anything we can do to stop it except for the anti-cheat software and good eyes (admins).
After Valve messed CS up with 1.4, i'm lookin for new places to turn to. This looks pretty good and i am lookin at a good release of it, also i cant wait for SoF2 to be released seeing as the MP Test is pretty good.
But so far this community has been really great. One thing i'd like to do though... is get a hold of some of those weapon skins and do a little Contrasting, dodging and burning They look too "sketch like" and "cartoony" in my eyes right now.

You're not using your left pinky, and moving slow or crouching makes it hard to strafe in the corresponding direction (since 4&1 and 6&3 are hit by the same finger).
I use esdf, because I touch-type and having my pointer finger on the F key is comforting. Also, it gives me access to SIX different keys with my pinky - Z is duck, shift is walk. TAB, CAPS, and Q are assigned differently depending on the game. I actually don't use A, surprisingly, because I used to use it for jump (till HL invented the crouch-jump, which requires 2 fingers).
And just as you have 6 keys under your pinky, you have 6 more under your forefinger (5, if you discount F=strafe right). Gives you lots of options - in JK2, I've got 5 different force powers (not counting jump) individually mapped right around my left hand, as well as normal "next force" and "use force" buttons.
I admit, Romothecus, reaching for the top of the keyboard requries extra 0.002 seconds and burns 1g extra of fat, but having all those numpad keys all jammed in there, with your mouse right beside it, ugh. I would have to slid my keybaord waaaay over to even reach that comfortably Anways, I usualy use my scroll wheel now in place of numbers, much quicker, but I still scroll up when I should scroll down in NS.
Ok I just had to get this off my back... I love lvl 3 n all but I reallly like 4 if i play alien I will sav up points and morph to him
If you die, you don't lose any points (as of now, it may cost some RP to spawn, but it is free right now). But, when you respawn you are a level 1 alien again and must use RP to upgrade to new levels and get upgrades for your body.
about the marine hud and icons, was my idea for a comander selection notification icon implemented? seems it would be easy enough, you just have both selection and deselection treated as a command by itself, that way it is sent to the marine through the system you already set up and tells the client to activate or deactivate the icon:)
It's an icon hovering near the elevator button, Pi Gi, which shows where usable buttons are. It's on by default, but can be turned off if you know your way around...
YO Rhoads, i didn't know you were into this mod aswell, anyways, i am loving this mod and if i had a thousand dollars to spare, i'd give it to you guys . that's if i had a thousand dollars to spare. this mod is gonna be the bomb.

But the new style really looks so awesome! its really one of the best things i have ever seen... I hope the aliens will have one just as beautiful as this one, only a little bit less metallic/machine... This is what makes me want to play...
There are two things that annoy me though... I think it would look better with this hud if the 'This is your hive, protect it etc.' and 'Point at the base of this turret and hold your "use" key to build it' messages where more blue/turquose instead of green.. Its more fit. At least for the marines...
And as you can see in Pyrowolfs drawings, he uses the 'OCR a extended' (thnx pyro! but this one i already knew... i used it already in my msn). This is a very futuristic font, and maybe it would be good to use this one. Not only for messages, but also for the chat and recources (MAYBE not recources... it looks fine as it is)... i think this would make it even more beautifull then it already is...

I'm just wonderin', (Sorry if this has already been asked/answered a million times), when can we see some shots of combat going on? Sure, it won't be much because it's just a single frame, but I still think it'd be great to see some of the ol' Marines/Aliens in action, trying to beat the crap out of one another. ^_^
I'll save you all the looking and whining* I did about this question.
Most of the models for the aliens have not been implemented in the actual version that is being playtested. The one exception is Bob (lvl. 1 alien. He's the guy who goes on all fours and has very sharp spike looking feet. see here)
The other aliens are being represented by placeholder models, not the wicked cool final models which you see in the forums and the media sections of natural-selection.org and readyroom.org.
Thus, the combat screenshots wouldn't look nearly as impressive as your thinking. However, there are some great shots hanging around of Bob kicking butt. I'll see if I can find one.
*To the developers credit they do listen to us whiny fans. The last time I whined it resulted in the model for Pudgy being realised in the forums. But one shouldn't abuse the priviledge.
That, and in the middle of a firefight, you're a bit too focused to remember "Oh, gotta hit the screenshot button!"...
