Edit: After just now testing it ingame, I can honestly say that this is the first skin I see as a real improvement over the standard. It fits into the game well and is indeed very smooth-looking. Also, it's a bit darker than the regular skins, making sure you do not gain an advantage using it. I like it.

I dont think he is saying that. What I do think he is saying is that dling, installing and using is more trouble than its worth, no matter how fantastic the models may be, because of the model consistency varible settings on most servers. In particluar clan/league servers.
My opinion of the models? Fantastic! I have used E&C's models/skins before and have found them to be great. Unfortunately I wont use them in NS because of all the servers that will not allow them. You say "Just ASE and fliter them then" Ah ha! I cant use ASE. For some reason I get strange fatal errors when I try and run ASE. As blue2k said, though, there is a lack of deffinition, compared to the defaults, as if much of it was just smudged, though it remains a very good job. The pinch on the black guy is a bit of a stereotype, but does look good.
oh and the FTP errors you're getting are probably because you're not running a patched version of IE (I think that's it). Look around on their site and it tells you exactly why it might not work.
I totally Agree, it's too blurred, I'm not getting it. This is crap compaired to their DoD Models. Tisk Tisk.

The pics posted of in game are blurred afterwards in photoshop I use one as my desktop ( no reason though)
The skins are not blurred version of the originals they are a new creation some from scratch some manipulated to fit from other E&C stock
The images from the HLMV are always more blurred and darker than in game usage.
NO there is NO VIRUS ! Why would I willingly try to damage my own reputation. I serve the HL mod community and have for over 4 years. Our modeler is on the DEV team for FLF2 and I was the official FLF player skinner for versions 1.5 through 1.7 Just because I show up with an installer does not mean I am out to get you.
The quality of these skins is just as good as our DOD stuff you/we are just dealing with a different genre and style in NS it's ok if you don't like them.
S_Viper Who the Hell are you?!?! there is nothing wrong with releasing with a professional installer. There is nothing wrong with my installer. Any "FOOL" can make a Zip
I took great care in noting the issues with servers enforcing file version, and allowing an out for people who are new to the mod and may not know and do not have their defaults backed up. Why would you consider that an insult? Otherwise... Really, what is your problem? To trash all our work, and all our efforts in every aspect is just plain childish and ignorant on your part. I don't create things for you S_Viper. and I get nothing out of it really, but I'll tell you, to date since release 1183 downloads from our FTP speaks alot louder than your opinion.
Remember some people do not even like NS. Heck I'll bet some people don't like you. Yet we/they let you continue to be who you are unabashed.

Duhflyinlerk is correct I did not have to do anything. A personal request was made to me for a less cartoony ( colored pencil on white paper) looking skin. I complied with the request and E&C released it to the public.

But don't waste your time trashing work that you probably cannot do yourself, and do not spend time trashing our group and it's members, the manner in which we release material or insinuate that we release Virii.
We cannot cater to each and every individuals tastes, and we know this. so we do for a majority and the posters so far on this thread are quite the minority regardless of their position.

Then make a frickin zip. I'm not going to use an installer for something I can do myself, as well as, I have no control of the installer over-writing skins and ofcourse it won't tell me if it did. Whats even worse is you used one of the third-party installers that encrypts the payload. I wouldn't have any problem with it having an installer as long as I can rip out the raw files with winrar with ease (like most installer based apps).
Your posting on forums with some more experienced people, so post a zip for us. Every other models/skin group basically has. And I also dont want to download/host a 800kb skin pack when with the installer its 1.5mb (for example)
There are so many reasons not to use an widget installer. If you insist on using an installer, use the one that 1: tells you what it's doing realtime, 2: lets you change anything:

And also the installer overhead is very minimal.

ofcourse, but yet its much easier to create a nice user-unfriendly zip than to compile the .exe installer.

Installers will never be able to overwrite skins, neither will zips. It's a model with a new skin that gets overwritten ( I know you know this). You download it, you click it, you have to know it is going to overwrite something. Right? You would be a fool if you did not know that. Do you really need your hand held? Do you need everything spelled out for you? You say this community has much more experience. Then show it. You have serious contradictions in your argument that makes it seem like you are just complainig for the sake of complaining.
I used an install maker that I own. and I have a working knowledge how to use. I am still learning the aspects of this installer and I could have easily allowed it to do what you would like done. I also would have liked to include the default models and allowed the end-user to chose so you could put your defaults back in. Or maybe uninstall support But again... you are one person being an Jerk about the whole thing again ( quoting and reposting my entire post... SHEESH) Give it a rest. none of the people who have downloaded this have complained in such a manner as you. It's only you and your I want it my way or the highway attitude.
I do not like NSIS. It is over my head right now. I would rather spend what little free time I have on a skin then learn software like that.
All you gotta do is click on the darn thing and sit back. Why on earth would you rather rip it apart and extract this and that; making more work out of it than needed, and complain when you can't. That's just silly. When I see a skin/model I like; I would love to just click and go. rather than unzip to this folder then verify if the person who compiled the zip did it right or do I have a new NS folder in my NS folder or whatever.
When you say I am Never getting anything from these people again! Regardless of your intentions. You are very harsh and judgemental. and it affects the opinions of people who read what you say.
You did not post and say "nice skins" you did not say "have you tried this installer because of ___" You did not say "might I offer this suggestion seeing is you are new to the NS community" You didn't come off as trying to help at all. You offered nothing other than what sounded to me alot like my 9 month old son when he doesn't get his way.
I think you really wanted to offer suggestions or help to make things easier for everyone, and you probably could have, but either your arrogance or your attitude prevented you and you took the easy road and just decided to throw stones. You called us fools on your first post for crying out loud. That's pretty immature and not really helpful, but thanks just the same.
As far as your number of downloads. Do not compare your many files and their rate of download to this one file. If you want to get into it that way; we have plenty to offer by way of other mods that get downloaded quite often. I seriously doubt you achieve thousands of downloads an hour when the community is not big enough to warrant your figures. 24,000 downloads a day for 365 days a year I doubt it. you're just trying to toot a whistle that does not exist and justify your argument with unsubstaniated information. Besides you host all the images over a black background and you can barely even see what your offering.
Sorry you had to invest so much time in something as inconsequencial as this. I think you could have represented yourself and the community much better by being more respectful and less judgemental.

Yeah, your right, I was a little too judgemental in the first post. And I do agree, I like your analogy of the point-click-and go. Ive always been the type to download a model, edit it for my own purposes, etc. and the over-write installers have too often killed my favourite skins.
My apologies to your team. You have put alot of good work into the various works on your site, and I respect your willingness to help users install it easier.
Im just getting old. Im an old-timer IRIX unix user, of which in those days installers were highly frowned upon because they would dump files everywhere, and you would never beable to track them all down. With the advent of Windows, installers now do whatever they want (Like Netscape, you install that and you get a hundred AOL icons spread throughout various folders). I just don't like kneeling to installers.

I know what your saying though. I was trying to work out a deal with the various leagues out there in order to get their endorsement on a default installer but the project is huge and you might as well just reinstall the mod altogether.
If I get it down right I will find a way to make all my future installers have a dual purpose for league/clan users so they can customize their game, when they want the experiences that custom can offer. and then click and re-use the same installer to put the defaults back.
You pointed out though that it can be a huge file with a bit of overhead - if this particular Marine reskin installer had that feature it would be 4.2 MB - and using an uninstall feature - well I don't know enough about my package here to know whether or not it will just wipe the files altogether and not replace the originals.
something to think about though.
P.S. no worries I am learning all about being old nowadays.
