I'm not sure what I need to do, I have a laserbeam and laserdot sprite (from TS) but I'm not sure what I have to do to add it to a gun (not even sure if its possible), anyone know?
i think u cant add a laserbeam /spot clientsidet... im not sure with the spot, cause halflife can generate it.. but i think its a server side option too u have to install on the server the laserplugin (dont ask me whre u can get it)
wait wait wait...your trying to make a laserbeam effect show up in game? or are you trying to make your gun look bad arse by adding a little (essentially) reddot sight to it and then making your default X-hair sprite the reddot?
If option 1, can't do it (I think)
If option 2, go into milkshape3d, decompile the MDL file, find the standard model file (dunno what type, it'll be in the decompiled file folder) and add on a LAM (Laser Aim Module) and then find some tut for replacing X-hair sprites.

it sure looks cool... but u can see marines comming that are miles away <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
you want to add a laser sight only for your player view? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> just slam a lam model on your gun and make your own laserdot...
lol maybe someone can code you something that makes your weapon constantly firing a superthin red egonshot <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> that will look like a laserbeam <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
silencer:I'd only have a solid red line across the screen, thats not exactly a good effect if you ask me
zero:You can add a laserpoint beam on your gun as long as its apart of the model.
i think nobody can make you a cool looking laser beam on your weapon...cause the halflife engine havent such a function that creates a static transparent beam from the playerview.. i mean u can model the beam...but its not that what u want
well, I doubt u'll need to use that. www.custom-tfc.co.uk <----look for the flaming gibs and flaming shell models they both have sprites attacked. SO u could work using the same principles and add a laser sprite.
As I said, if you are trying to add a laser pointer effect, Can't do it except server side
and yes Sheena, I've played the Specialists, and Action Half-Life, the HL engine can do it but it's server-side only...trying to find a working FTP with AHL.
Doubt that smoke. As I've said, sprites have been attached to models and so what your saying would mean, unless every server has that sprite mod on these models wouldn't work.
www.custom-tfc.co.uk <---flaming gibs and flaming shells and speak to the auther about how he/she attached sprites. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
isn´t this a shot of NS 1.04? cause i played 1.04 once and it had laserbeams for Marines. they acted a tad funny (weren´t always a straight line but rather seemed to "target" something. Looked nifty nontheless.
Although it's my assumption that they would rather use the more advanced kind of dot sights that don't have the big trail, which means you may as well just use the aiming reticle.
In real life, laser sights have been rendered illegal in most countries because they are deemed just unfair. That's actually the real reason. Don't flame me out for saying it. Hollywood likes them anyway, though, because they're so stylish. -And- it's more stylish to have the pretty trail, which isn't necessarily and leads people to see where you are. By extension, it became necessary to develop newer lasers that didn't have the trails, which are equally illegal.

I only saw his quote...not your post...that's a crazy reason though.
(People on this board are hardcore about everything...some of you should chill out, and this has nothing to do with this laser thing but in general it seems like people are on edge and defensive.)
