The two you get in the lifepod are inedible. You can switch them from your inventory to other containers, even drop them, but the option to consume them is gone. NBs found in other parts of the game work fine.

EDIT: experimental build, still broken as of update 49824.

According to update #49825, this was fixed. Started a game in 49833 and the ones in the lifepod are still inedible.

On a slight note, on my current Stable game, Nutrient Blocks don't show up as that sweet new model shown on the Trello page, but instead it's still a "Loot Cube." But unlike before with the Nutrient Block icon on each side, the new icon is broken up across the texture and makes it look like the cube is covered in runny gravy.

On a related note, dropped Coral Disks no longer revert to Loot Cubes, but dropped Creepvine Seeds still revert to Loot Cubes. This is in Stable build #50032 by the way.
