Performance upgrade (theory)

I play Subnautica on the xbox one, which of course, lags to the extreme. I got to thinking about the performance issues and some possible ways to fix them. Subnautica has a pretty big open world, like Ghost Recon Wildlands, and GTA. But Subnautica has a faster load time than either of those games, right? I was thinking that if the more of the world loaded up at the beginning of the game, before we've started playing it, that it might cut down on some of the lag in the game. The short load time isn't necessarily a bad thing, but that means that its not exactly loading in all the way, therefore it has to do it when someone is playing the game, which causes the performance issues.
This is only a theory, I don't know if it will work towards improving the performance, but I do feel confident enough in this to put it out there.

I think that will all be part of the optimization process. Right now it loads fast as everything is unoptimized and sort of 'dumped' raw to disk, with less compression etc than normal. During optimization, that will change. Just guessing, though, I don't know.

Pretty good guess, though. :) Once file sizes are optimized, the game will be able to use memory more efficiently, which in turn leads to the ability to cache more effectively. The only reason it hasn't been done already is that optimization is one of the last things you do; optimizing too early means you've sharply increased your workload if you need to make changes - assuming they can be made at all. Tinkering with optimized resources can be...well, let's just say "irritating." :)
