Have you ever wanted to go somewhere without being under water? Have you ever wished for a better option than a cyclops? Have you ever wished for a transportation option without having to worry about being torn apart by reapers? Boats. They could be like a mobile base above the surface. With an opening in the bottom for prawn suits or seamoths.
Boats, your best bet of moving horizontally over large distances.

Depends when you get it.
Fair enough. I suppose at that point all you need is a way to distinguish where the void is.
That might actually be handy too for existing vehicles, considering the suddenness of the void has proven to confuse people and I know I was into void waters with my Seamoth well before realizing I missed the Floating Island once.
Make is so you'd need "special materials" from dangerous biomes to build a boat... Gameplay > realism? But right now, you can already go along the surface (kinda out of harms way) and basically ignore some biome specific dangers (maybe the Reaper stills wants a word/hug). The thing is, the interesting stuff is down below, so a boat ain't gonnah help in that department other than the islands...
I still want a fishing pole with my boat
a boat doesn't have to be stupidly overpowered if they had any blueprints for one or brought any with them it would probably be ether a rigid-hulled inflatable to transport people from sub and back when its too shallow for the sub or a smallish transport boat the size of the cyclops or smaller for transporting people, equipment and materials to the aurora and back or to a landing point and back
for a mining ship that was on the way to building a phazegait all the current equipment seems too specialized sense they were so post to be in uncharted space and dident intend to land on this planet

Not to shame clickmatch but it doesn't look futuristic enough.
