Game Crashes a lot.

Hello my name is Riley, I have been playing Subnautica for about a year now, and I have been having a lot of crashing happening lately. Most of the time when I crash, it is because I am near an island.

I highly recommend going into the game properties and turning on Betas. At the moment, I think they are very near the release version for Feb/March, and the experimental version is quite stable. Playing the release version, I was crashing every 5-10 minutes but have NEVER crashed since running experimental while playing 20-30 hours over the last few days.

1) Make sure Windows is up to date
2) Make sure your drivers are up to date (especially video drivers, in Steam, hit Steam > Check for video driver updates)
3) You can try experimental (betas) but keep in mind your save is considered expendable at that point (haven't ever had an issue, but experimental is the dev playground)
4) You can try clearing your cache (see first line of my signature below). This will probably fix your problem, but you should try making sure everything is up to date regardless, and, in the experimental branch, they may have implemented something to eliminate the need for cache clearing (don't know haven't been able to play for a while).
