I really think that the game needs the stack option for the inventory. It becomes pretty annoying when you are trying to gather the materials, especially the ones that you find far away from your base. It takes away the fun to make 20 runs only for some silver, gold, coral tabs etc.

IIRC.. isn't it possible to put 4 storage modules on a Seamoth?

for the early stages (and not going deep), the basic seamoth module would be two storage, a daylight charge (if needed), and the current strongest pressure compensator. effectively having a quick scout for material storage. even try and spare a storage module for the prawn suit as it has abysmal storage capacity to begin with.
