Put beacon (including custom name) function into Communications Relays

1) It adds incentive for the player to put comm relays in their bases
2) Gets rid of the odd-feeling beacons floating in bases to mark them (beacons seem more suited for use 'in the wild' so to speak)
3) I think that this would mesh rather nicely with the comm relay's new ability to transmit a notification to your HUD that you have a new message. (If it can tell me I have a new message from across the map, why can't I tell where it's broadcasting from?)

Another idea: perhaps the ability to listen to messages remotely using a headset craftable with a computer chip and a copper wire (or just one copper ore, probably don't need that much copper wire), equipped to the slots where the signals currently reside (you could take it off and put it in regular inventory when not listening to messages, sort of like a Bluetooth headset).

I really do like the idea of using coms relay as a beacon. The only thing is that they would need to be less expensive that the Beacon to make it practical. If two things do the same thing and one costs twice as much, the cheap one always wins.

Maybe the Beacon could be placed inside the base as a wall mount that looks like a little box with lights and some antenna.

They don't do the same thing. The relay also receives and plays messages, you'd just be adding to what it already does, but I see your point and like your suggestion -- making beacons deployable in bases as a fixture, like lab equipment, luggage bags, etc are.
