Be sure you only put a thin layer of thermal paste on; you should almost be able to read through it. Never hurts to watch a few YouTube videos if you're not sure.

Just asking purely out of interest, but why only a thin layer of thermal paste?

because you dont want it to screw up the connection to the fan there is a slight data flow so the fan knows how fast to spin at least thats what ive been told

Eh... I'm pretty sure you will find there's "some assembly required" when you open the box. ;) (but don't let that stop you, the chip only slides in one way, and like I said, YouTube is your friend, just watch a few videos to be sure you're not watching the one guy who does it wrong). ALSO, BE SURE to remove any plastic protective layer if there is one, as I've seen horror posts about them being left on, and of course, they don't really transfer heat, and just melt etc.

Although, looking at some of the newer videos, it seems some come with thermal paste pre-applied. If so, great!

A thicker layer will actually not transfer heat as well, and more importantly, will get pressed out by the heatsink, and go places where it shouldn't (like into the circuitry around the processor).

i believe the error is in the files that generate world tiles, these are in the build 18 folder. im also trying to rule out which ones are corrupted and which ones aren't... still didn't find the one though....

Alright, I just helped someone else with this, and what fixed it (accidentally) was installing Subnautica to another Steam Library (I suggested putting Subnautica in his SSD on C: instead of his spinny disk on D: ). You could try uninstalling, deleting the Subnautica folder, and then re-installing, but if that doesn't work, try another Steam Library. Note that this was to fix a Build 18 error at first game creation; if you can start other new games, then it's probably unrelated to this fix.

You can always back up your SavedGames folder, nuke Subnautica, then re-verify (forcing a re-download of the entire game), then restore your saved games.

EDIT: For the record, I just helped someone who had an error with Build18, chkdsk reported no filesystem problems, Steam verified all files ok, uninstalled, reinstalled, no dice, and Process Explorer showed no open handles to the game. Also tried restarting the PC. So what fixed it?

Installing to a different Steam Library (as I recommended he install to his SSD on C: instead of his spinny disk on D: ). Which is just all around weird. He has other recent Unity games that have no problems at all.

So I guess you could try creating a new Steam Library and installing to there if your log shows file access problems.

I actually CAN load new saves, so I am thinking the save is corrupted or outdated?

Agreed. Clear all files except the following four from your save (they are in the top folder of the save, slot00##):
    • gameinfo.json
    • global-objects.bin
    • scene-objects.bin
    • screenshot.jpg (<- that's the little thumbnail showing you a preview of the save when you go to load)

If that doesn't work, I'd consider the save lost.

I’m having an issue where I can’t place the initial base for building a hatch

@JuggerProdigy What base piece are you having trouble with? If you mean the multi-purpose room, that is a later blueprint, and you can build hatches on corridors. My other guess is that you are trying to place the piece too low. If neither of these are the problem, please give a detailed description of what you are trying. For example: "When I select a corridor in my builder tool, nothing happens; it just exits the menu."
