I just recently downloaded Subnautica and was quite excited to play it. But when it loaded the Main Menu had a black background and I was able to click on anything. I've restarted it multiple times but to no avail. My current operating system is an IMac with the following specifications:
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB
I do not currently know my game version but I will try to figure it out.

I meant to say I wasn't able to click on anything. My mistake.

OK try forcing Direct3D9 mode. Look here under the Direct3D heading.

Didn't seem to have worked. I opened it several times again yet I was faced with the same problems. I even opened it and left it open for about 5-10 mins and nothing changed.

It may be because you have a core 2 duo with 4gb ddr2 ram and a Radeon HD graphics card

Recommend for most any game is a
    QUAD CORE
    4GB DDR3
    And a non-legacy graphics card
Able to take direct X 11

I understand iMacs are not able to realistically be worked on by most people although I may suggest bringing the ram up if it can handle more but you may want to check the Integrety of the cache it's done in steam by right clicking on the game going to properties and local files (on windows) could be different on iMac I would check but currently I don't have an iMac with subnautica on it

Well, it seems I have reached the conclusion I most expected. After finally being able to interact on the main menu (lagily I must point out), I was finally able to create a game. But upon joining my game crashed. This is quite what I expected considering my computer is quite out of date. So, thank you two for helping me.

@MinosFTW Try running it at 1024x768 in D3D9 mode, as a last option.

Am I able to change the screen resolution in the options?
