[CRASH] Consistent crashes while approaching volcanic geyser north east of life pod [40062 Oct-2016]

Exactly what it says on the tin. The game starts lagging and then it freezes and crashes to desktop if I approach the volcanic geyser that is just northeast of the starting point, doesn't matter if I am swimming or using a vehicle.

I'd suggest as a starting point clearing your game cache. There is another member here who has all the instructions in his signature. Also go to steam and do a file verification on the game.

Verifying integrity through Steam did nothing and was the first thing I tried after logging the crash folder. Clearing the cache fixed it for now. Cheers!
