Dear developers, about Subnautica trailer.

So I was curious and looked up official Subnautica trailer on everybodygoesthereforhowtotieshoelacestube. Started pretty well, big ship crashes someplace all dramatic and catchy and you get the point of how it all begins. It ended REALLY well, it had a giant monster, screams, fading to black and a nice touch of humor in form of passing peeper. Now here is the problem... what the hell happened to the middle part? I'm not asking for a Blizzard level cinematic where you take your pants off in preparation and sit on a surface that is easy to clean, what a trailer at least needs, is to catch your attention and explain what its all about. That did not happened with that trailer... no idea if it's a puzzle game, fps, rpg... a cartoon? A small montage of humorous, intense or showcasing clips would have been perfect for the middle portion instead I was treated to watching a guy in spandex watch a ship explode and fall butt first into water.
Before 1.0 you guys really need to fix that trailer. This games deserves a good trailer, I was half tempted to report it for harassment on behalf of Subnautica game and the poor peeper that ended up being more relevant then about half of that trailer.

As an aside, I'm not superfond of the final scream. Whenever I ask someone to watch it, I feel obliged to warn them to tone down the volume towards the end. It's really loud all of a sudden.
Perfect example of how epic the sound shockwave is by arriving later, this one is a bit too late for how close you are to the Aurora, but still I want that delay in there
I would pay for the DLC where after the ship explodes the guy just says redneck gibberish
"HOLY Tortarito "
No hyper music, just the gameplay ambience, perhaps even toned down a little.
No cuts at all, just a first-person mini-narrative. Swimming through a cave, looking around at the beauty of the chosen area, observing some Reefbacks, hearing a big scary noise, panic, head searching for the source, a big shadow passes, look to see a giant monster, hide in a cave, turn around, face to face with screaming Reaper coming right at the screen.
Cut to black. No music.
"Subnautica"
Edit; The music (Abandon Ship I mean), while technically well produced, is not everyone's cup of tea and can be extremely off-putting.
I stopped listening to trance when I was a young teenager and it's kind of cringy.
Well, you gotta think about the speed of sound, and how far away the aurora is from the safe shallows near the life pod (where 99% of players will be when it explodes). Sound travels at about 332 meters per second in earth's atmosphere, and the atmosphere of the planet you're on in subnautica is probably very very similar as it's completely safe to breath, so it's safe to say that sound on that planet would travel anywhere from 320 to 340 meters per second. I'm not exactly sure how far away in meters the aurora is from the center of the safe shallows, but if it's 600 meters away, then there'd only be a 2 second delay, and in the game there seems to be about a 1 second delay between the explosion and the shockwave. So I'd say the game is pretty accurate as it is, although I agree that a bit more of a delay would be cool.
That guy sounds more australian to me, which would make sense considering that's in papua new guinea, just right above australia. "Holy smokin' toledo"
Not to be the genre police or anything but the newer music they've produced isn't trance, it's more along the lines of house
The volcano video I posted was much further away, I just used that one to make a point using that much greater distance So assuming the Aurora is about 500-600m from the pod, that initial explosion sound should indeed come about two seconds after the visible explosion. Followed by the wave a bit later coming towards you.
I always considered the sound building up to the explosion to be some kind of sci-fi dark matter reaction sound, you know? Like the sound of an unimaginable amount of energy building up somewhere in the engine that it shouldn't, then being released as it breaks what they call the "dark matter containment field".
I have, unfortunately developed utter disregard towards anything that isn't posted by devs... I know, I know... I see something "game x trailer" by random person I'll instantly ignore it and won't touch it. Sad fact of current internet, full of 10 year olds that gotten high on their coolaid since it provides a shield and people cater to that mentality. Different topic but I would imagine I'm hardly alone with such sentiment. "trolling" is fine and all that when it's done in a graceful way but when search result returns first 20 thousand hits of lets say Darksiders 3 as some shitstain posting "insert current kewl kid meme" god I hate that word, you kind of lose interest in trying eventually maybe I'm just old and sour.
Btw lifepod, 5 if going by games distance measurments, is only about half a kilometer away... and the portion that blows up about 1km with change.

First trailer.
And for that matter, every single stable update (PC) comes with its own trailer highlighting what's new.
Are you my long lost brother?
Yes?
@DrownedOut As far as subject of update trailers goes, that's different, if a new person is looking they check what they find first then they get their first impression... if it's a picky customer then you might lose them right there and then. I'm happy I didn't look for trailer before I got this... may have worked out differently. This whole thing reminds me of Egosoft... they may have gotten a ton of flak after their "4th" X title due to lots of new kids not knowing how they operate but they also have some bizzare aversion to advertising their series, shame really... devs that would release patch for a game that's more then a 17? years old... that's really rare.
