In order to add more variation, islands and islets should be added.
Imagine something like this digital-camera.gr/photos/braxos_stin_thalassa_ou_aigaiou_milos.jpg existed in subnautica.
First of all, i believe there should be multiple ways to climb it like 2 or 3. In addition, several new land movement mechanics (e.g crouching, crawling, even climbing small walls of land) should be implemented in order to make traversing through foreign and wild terrain MUCH more challenging and interesting.
When you reach the top, the screen should fade out black so a cinematic kinda thing starts playing.
Being on a vantage point, overlooking the Aurora's crash site the player would sit down like this modsfallout4.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/sit-on-the-floor-4.jpg, relaxing and slowly getting emotional about the incident saying things like: "How could that ever happen?" or "Everything that could possibly go wrong, sure did". Then the screen would again fade out and the players will continue playing normally.
On the top, you would find a supply box and an abandoned PDA that belonged to a survivor who might seeked shelter there. Of course, in order to go down we should be able to jump and dive but the diving animation needs some work

Scientifically speaking they should, mainly in both the mountains and Safe Shallows, maybe even the Grassy Plateau. The chances that those pillars and spikes in the Mountains and Plateau would just stay under water, relatively the same height, with none poking out, are extremely low. Imagine two mountains jtting out of the water and looping around to form something like that archway. Something Subnautica needs in order to create a more diverse and realistic ecosystem.
