I would say that it would make gameplay miserable because you would always be dying to a sudden reaper coming out of the ground in the safe shallows like a tremor.
I Hope/expect this to be a mod if mods are ever a thing in Subnautica
Yeah, this would be nice, but I foresee two problems:
1) Leviathan behaviour needs some fixes - right now the leviathan near the mountain island disappears eventually (probably due to clipping through the terrain and falling forever). Hopefully this will be fixed if they are putting some form of leviathan in the lava zone (which is pretty contained). So this may not be a problem by version 1.0
2) It looks like we may be able to edit some appliances and behaviours via the *.dll files. However, the actual locations and propensity to wander of lifeforms seems to be elsewhere (probably binarized as part of the terrain files). So, we may need to do better hacking than I am capable of and/or have the devs release terrain editing tools to allow this.
Let me know if I'm wrong about either of these barriers. I'd certainly love a difficulty level where these things were found in unusual places once every six hours or so (i.e. one wouldn't have to dodge them all the time - safe shallows would *usually* be safe- ...but one would occasionally find them wandering, and never know for sure that one was safe).
P.S.
If you're curious I spawned it with console commands in order to get the screenshots.
Aaagh... The thought of that sends me dead. Just imagine standing ontop of your lifepod peacefully, then a massive leviathan, mouth open JUMPS outta the water and eats you for his breakfast. Terrifying.
Hiding in the smaller caves as it swims by, that sense of paranoia as you don't know if it's seen you.
I'm not sure that would work though, do lifeforms aggro on range or line of sight?
If we had a large predator in the Safe Shallows biome however, I'd like it to only appear at night.
Many games have taught the player that night time is bad, and having it around 24/7 would eliminate the point of it being the 'Safe Shallows', in my opinion.

I agree! So far, the ocean looks scary and beautiful at night, but it would be awesome if they add a creature for the night!
It would probably ruin reapers for me, because I'd want to know why they keep coming after me and not go after the other fish. Right now I assume something between hunting and territory defense. If they'd leave their areas and still come after me like that, I'd probs lose my suspension of disbelief.

Yes, that would be ideal in my mind - only at a certain time of day and only rarely (e.g. after a storm if storms are ever implemented). Something like 'once a week a reaper migrates from one side of the map to another'. Travelling between fishing and spawning grounds or something like that. Very rare, but somewhat unpredictable.

I'd like a predator(s) that actively hunt within their biome. I.e. they spawn at a set location, then patrol the biome.
Maybe one "alpha" predator that actively tracks you as soon as it detects a human or even when you enter the biome. Similar to Clock Tower monsters.
If you change the game to make an Alpha Predator actively hunt me (the player) over its native food sources, expect to hear a lot more clamor for weapons, because it changes the basic premise of the game and makes it impossible for you to fulfill all these 'just live peacefully among the fishies' fantasy some folks are always preaching on the forum. It becomes "Subnautica: Become the Prey in an undersea game preserve".
*I* am an Alpha Predator on my world, and I will be here too, if the Reapers want to make it a contest. Right now we have a 'you stay in your space, I'll stay in mine' pact that we've both honored. If that changes, I'll cheerfully change tactics and demonstrate why tool using intelligent species *always* dominate an ecosystem.

I've used that joke three times already. Please kill me.
