Moth mounted scanner

I had a thought. A Seamoth mounted scanner. Some biomes are just flat hostile. As expected of course. So the ability to fabricate a scanner as a moth upgrade would be wonderful. It isn't really a stretch.

Won't help against the Reaper... but while facing a Shocker, "shark" or Mesmer, yeah, it would be safer than going for a swim and scanning them up close and personal.

No way, I want to have an achievement when I scanned all creatures without any help (no stasis or tamed creature from an egg). I'm not sure how I would scan the sea dragon leviathan, but it would be interesting.

I wasn't really referring to creatures. I am referring to tech lying about that we need blueprints from.

You probably want a long range mass scanner to scan the fragments from the safety of your seamoth. And then the next thing would be a grav pickup tool, so you only need to hover with your seamoth over the resources and they all get sucked up to your inventory.

It would be convenient to do that, but you would take the scaring moments out of the game. Imagine trying to swim to your resource to scan or pick up, when suddenly you hear that awful sound and you retreat in panic to your seamoth.

If you want advice how to safely do your stuff: Use the seamoth ramming and shocking abilities to clear out the area of any enemies. In case of the reaper you should look where it is, before exiting your seamoth, as you can hear that beast far before you can see it. If you want to operate close to a reaper, then freeze it inside a stasis bubble.

I agree with this. I had thought about having a mounted scanner before too, but I think it would take out some of the urgency of the game. Swimming around, exposed, to collect materials and data is kind of the point, maybe. But man do you feel accomplished after out swimming a creature trying to eat you.
