Over time I have developed some sort of "ideal achievement difficulty/time investment distribution" games should follow because I'm addicted.
I get that it's meant as a joke and I actually kinda wrinkled my mouth a little, but on my list of achievement sins a game can commit this is second only to de facto unachievable achievements (like ones tied to events that are limited in time). It's literally the cheapest way of trying to get some longevity out of the game and only encourages having your game open in the background. So don't actually do it.
Heavy Spender: As a commander, win a 10+ minute long game without going over 60 team resources.
Might need a minimum RT requirement as well, I dunno.
I don't quite like that one how it is now, but the concept is pretty good. I think there is a really good achievement idea close there.
Last night I had a rookie comm who was communicative and actually knew some build orders and that he should med. He gave a good effort. After about 6 minutes of a 25 minute game he sat on ~50 res until we lost. He just did not know how to spend it quick enough, or what to spend on. What you just said reminds me of that.
Then there are the experienced but less skilled commanders who spend every penny and sit on 0 res and are unable to beacon.
Then there are the truly skilled commanders that always keep just enough res for a beacon if need be.
edit: For soul rider and wyzcrack. I will not stop putting edits in after the fact. In fact I am writing this not even as an edit. I am also responding to you from another thread. Is that fun?

Maybe some achievements related to modding? To try and encourage more people into modding NS2, in the hope of making it more appealing to more players??

Leave no survivors: as aliens, win a round by destroying all infantry portals, then killng all marines
This is what the win conditions should be anyway lol
ha frozen. You love that idea, I know. The thing is, that is one example of why I like how ns2 gameplay works over ns1. I hated the fact you had to find everyone in the map before the game would end. You would always have that gorge in a vent next to a healing thing. It was funny, but annoying as well. I like that your main structures are the deciding factor of winning and losing and it seems like other games do that as well. I know you like this idea, but...
You could hide people in certain areas of the map preparing for an end of the game scenario - that doesn't end up with better gameplay in my opinion. I think the trade off between defending the last tech point and going after the other team's tech point is better than having to find random people all over the map and also concern yourself with the tech point end of the game scenario. NS is a lot about territory, timing, and map presence. If the aliens took down the command stations knowing they could get it down before the hive was destroyed, they should be rewarded with a win. It shouldn't be dependent on randomly coming across the marines at the right moment.
Take for example the world championship finals, there was one round where the marines won on a base trade move. That was a great chess play. In this scenario, you would then want the marines and aliens to fight to the bitter end in the middle of the map? That doesn't feel like NS2. I also don't see how hunting down players goes with the natural flow of the game or what is important to gaining an advantage on the other team. It's not a deathmatch game for a reason.

I always hate it when I have or have had been spawn camped like that. It is the most annoying end to a game when aliens just kill all the marines spawning in and it takes over a minute to end the game. Even worse if a fade ball ends it this way. It is pretty bad on the aliens when some good marines just go kill all the eggs and spawn camp for 3 minutes until the game ends. It just sucks.

This is exactly what achievements should not do. They should be aimed to teach and help encourage the correct gameplay behaviors as Foxy said.
Heheheh that is one way of keeping them playing

Worst idea for an achievement ever!
Yeah let's teach people to stack teams!! As if we don't already have enough people that stack...
This one would need to be hidden at first but Definitely agree.

Use a gorge tunnel? Really mate, what's next, walk through hallway?
I suggest you learn reading comprehension...
Stack at least three players HIGH. You know, like standing on each other. Stacked up like, you know.. Like crates n stuff..
And maybe some achievement for commander ability (drifter, catpacks, contamination....)
"Play 5 rounds on custom maps"
This is what the win conditions should be anyway lol

Bukkake - spawn 3 babbler eggs and set them to attack one solo Marine
