Improved Open-Ocean

The sea floor is teeming with life in Subnautica but apart from the occasional reef back there isn't much in the open ocean. I suggest having pods of dolphin like things or manta-ray like things that drift through the open ocean and are not linked to any biome. Having large schools of fish being hunted by these things or even just a solitary shark thingy that glide along not doing any harm. It would give life to the ocean and make it so hovering just over the seafloor is not the only interesting option.

I don't think this would cause performance issues. Objects only appear within a certain radius (except bases and subs atm). So if you glide through the open ocean, you might not see much of the ground and vice versa. I rather think this would cause a lot - I really mean A LOT - of work but would it make the game? Admittedly that was wonderful, the feeling of life, the ambiance, all the sightseeing, the nice pictures ... but where is the point, the story, the task?

I'd really like to see more ocean life if that would have a deeper meaning.

There needs to be more medium-sized sea life in the open ocean. I'd be content with friendly dolphin-like creatures hanging out with reef backs.

Also, there's no threats at the surface. Generally, skimming the sea moth along the surface is safe. This shouldn't be, maybe the proposed predatory birds could help.

I agree the surface should have some creatures, but I also think some biomes should be barren of life, and I don't like non-interactable creatures either.

I dare you to take protection off the seamoth and happily cruise close to auroria:)

(there spawns 0 to 3 reapers that love to be at surface level, first proper jump scare I got when managed swim in peace to reef at auroria and noticed that I could not get out of there:D )

I think that in open water (above bloodgrass plains and floating island biomes especially) there should definitely be some bigger friendlies/passives and also some aggressives (bonesharks hunting in schools?)

I've done that. It attacked twice and wouldn't leave me alone. Got my seamoth down to 10% and I had to jump out and weld it up quick (I refused to leave the area). It damn near ate me whole while I was welding, but I managed to dodge out of the way just in time. That was exciting..
