What are your upgrade ideas? What purpose do you use the Cyclops for?

Lets get this 'idea' party started
  • 'Tether Upgrade' Module - Ability to tether various objects and drag them along with the Cyclops, examples being lifepod, player (currents), big fish for relocation (reefback, reaper).
    • If currents ever get implemented, you could tether a Seamoth into a high speed area and explore the side caves of a crevice (for example, we assume the tether is made out of super tech so don't worry about realism okay?)

I am super stoked for this, super customization of the cyclops-- If upgrade limits are in place (# of upgrades), then we could do certain builds for certain situations!
Thoughts?

I know I keep bringing this up, but I can't stress enough how important I think navigation aids will be for the future usefulness of the Cyclops. I would also really like to see those lockers in the lower deck becoming functional as they are already planned, not chipped, I know, but seems like a massive waste of a useful part of the model.

Beyond these, I think conversion to a different power source, such as nuclear or solar (which I think is already in the works) should be chipped. It is important that we get more than just solar in this case, as exploring the lava zone is probably going to have us away from sunlight for hours of game time, so solar charging, even with the efficiency upgrade, is going to be useless. It might also be worthwhile to have a power storage upgrade that would double the storage capacity of the power cells.

I concur with all of SpacedInvaders suggestions especially the alternative power sources, currently the cyclops is crippled by having to spend more time gathering supplies to power it than actually driving it.

I think at this point that we are guaranteed to be getting at least a power cell recharge station for our bases, and probably also a solar charging upgrade for the cyclops. I would say that the only novel idea I had there was the ability to use alternative power sources, as something like nuclear makes much more sense for long-duration deep dives than solar or even rechargeable cells. At the rate the sub uses power, even with the efficiency module, a dive into the lava zone that takes 2-3 hours of play time would end up needing at least 6, if not 12-18 extra power cells on board, and that just seems like a waste of space.

Uh, Luitjens, not sure where you got the idea those model renders have anything to do with chipped upgrades. As I explained in our chat they are just going to be the Cyclops fragments for scanning, just prettier art to replace the gray safe stand in model that is scattered all over the world. So please don't go inferring what cyclops upgrades there are going to be, from that image.

*smacks head with sweaty palms* this is why I should never post on the internets :expressionless:

Power-changing sounds cool, and be nice if those lockers were functional, some sort of cyclops glass mapHUD would be sweet!

Charging station/Docking station seems to be a plan in the works.

If we're going for crazy upgrades , what about a front mounted stasis beam to continuously hold megafauna in place while you scan them ?

Maybe something like the perimeter defence upgrade or the torpedos of the seamoth but more powerfull to match the size. It would be nice to have something to damage megafauna from within the cyclops so you don't have to leave the save of the Cyclops to fight it. I've died several times because I had do that.
