In fact, if someone can make a mod of NS2 thats as close to identical to NS1 as possible, with maybe just some more weapons/counter/skills and stuff like that...I think it would become very popular, I know that I would certainly love to play that
Oh, we had that mod. It died somewhere around b245, although it never really took off.

And thats not necessarily the mod's fault, it beeing bad or something. As I said, mods are not well accepted by todays gaming community. It needs to be official, have a prize tag, fancy looking and abilities are called skills.
No offense meant, but If you ask me, that means you do not have an adequate sample base from which to make an assessment on the matter, then.
I am very much an active part of this community and pour over every feedback online that i can, from reddit to steam forums, to these forums, to comments on game news websites, to steam reviews etc.
I've been watching all of this reception intently since 2010, basically (to include helping run the NS2 booth for 5 PAX events, each with foot traffic of ~90,000 people).... which puts me in a good position of exposure to an adequate sample size.
From that thorough sample size it is my opinion that his reasons are most definitely in the minority of reasons given.
That could just be because the total population of those who purchased NS2 greatly outweigh the actual NS1 fans who expected X mechanics in their sequel - but that doesn't change the validity of my assessment.

It did not really become popular, and I cannot tell you the reasons why.
The author of the mod would have to explain that one

There is a mod that is nearly identical to ns1 called classic ns2. It has largely been unpopular, maybe from a lack of people knowing about it.
What I am trying to say Ironhorse, is that I am not special, unique, or different than the average natural selection fan, and neither were my friends...and the general clunkyness of the gameplay combined with the wtf aspect of some of the changes (most for the worst) steered us away. For those that say "go play ns"....you try to play half-life engine games after getting used to modern games.

Indeed, all that high client and server performance, fast netcode and lack of visual clutter. How very dare they.
Fast netcode, you say?
