How to improve fps?

All my options are set to low and I still get about ~20 fps when a little mess is going on and it's really bothering me. How come NS2 needs a very good computer even if the graphics are not like crysis or similar?

PC specs please...
OS:Windows 7 32/64-bit / Vista 32/64 / XP
Processor:Core 2 Duo 3.0 ghz
Memory:4 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9 compatible video card with 1GB, AMD 5770, NVidia GTX 450 or better
Well you're using an extremely old CPU and video card. As demanding as this game is on the CPU a Phenom X4 won't do it. Get an i5 and a gtx 470 and you should be good to go.
boom you can play

The recommended specs is pretty close to false advertising as the true specs required to play this game with acceptable frames (no dips below 30fps) involves an overclocked CPU at a minimum of 4ghz. The recommended specs basically equate to playing at a low resolution with everything off or on low to get acceptable frames throughout the match. I don't know about you but that sounds like minimum specs to me.

Your PC is pretty old now and will start to struggle with other games soon. Your CPU came out in 2009, so is 4 years old. Same goes for your GPU. NS2 came out end of 2012 and is a demanding game for it's modability. REquires significant Single-Threaded performance which is why the i5 and i7 do so well with NS2.
I would suggest you either overclock your CPU or upgrade.
Example:
<a href="http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/desktop-cpu-charts-2010/compare,2406.html?prod%5B4785%5D=on&prod%5B4788%5D=on&prod%5B4445%5D=on" target="_blank">http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/deskt...od%5B4445%5D=on</a>
This shows your CPU is half the speed of an i5 or more-so against the i7.
I also feel that the recommended specs should be the minimum specs. The current minimum specs is only to get into the menu I say...
Wow. What have u been smoking. With 4ghz u never get a dip below 100fps is probably closer to truth. I have non overclocked i5-3570k 3,8ghz and never dips below 45fps with a workload of 50% because im heavily GPU bottlenecked HD7750. I would probably have steady 100fps with a card like gtx660 ti or crossfire7750 and still not cpu bottlenecked with 3,8ghz.
Cpu system recommend spec is correct not false. if u u have +3ghz Core 2 Duo u can run this game just fine.

I sure hope your correct. I'm running an i5-2500K @ 4GHz but with a lowly HD4850 and at 1024x768 it will dip right down to 40fps during late heavy fire fights but averages around ~50+.
I'm planning to upgrade my Vid card hopefully soon and I would love to see a massive performance jump like you're suggesting it will be.
